Hi, I installed an HP 2420 gobi 2000 card in my cf-19 mk1 and got working (or at least recognized correctly in linux and win xp) using the panasonic driver firmware with gobi-loader.
Now I need to enable gps, that's recognized but not working.
According to this wiki Qualcomm Gobi 2000 - ThinkWiki I need to enable "Auto tracking" feature in a software like ThinkVantage GPS, Hp Connection Manager and similar.
I tried to install them in my winxp system, but they refuse to install sayng "device not found". My generic Sony connection manager doesn't have a gps feature.
Now there are two possible solutions:
1. Find a software with gps feature not locked to a specific brand. Do you know any??
2. Trick the Ibm or Hp software to think that I have their specific card/notebook and force them to continue installing. How can do this with win or linux?
Thank you

Have you tried 7zip to break down the exe file to it's separate files? (like extracting a zip file) There may be something in there you can use.
I plan on doing more work on this on getting non panasonic cards to work but just haven't had a chance yet. -
Help - what is that "panasonic driver firmware with gobi-loader"? I have hp un2420 which I am unable to use...
edit: googled "gobi-loader" and found what you are talking about. It seems that my issues with the gobi card are deeper - the gobi loader can't connect to the card at all... -
1.Installed un2420, set the dip switches (search forum), powered off. Then I enabled WAN in bios.
2.In winxp I installed a gobi driver withouth restrictions maybe this one from Gateway 3G-CM_Qualcomm_Gobi2000_v2.15.151_7x86_XP.zip and the Sony connection manager WebToGo EP0000227325.exe
Hovewer the card didn't work, in the windows devices control panel there was only a gobi com5 port and not the usb gobi peripheral and the gobi modem one.
3.In linux I unpacked the panasonic driver gobi2000_driver-firmware3600_V2.01L17M00EU.zip (hp,lenovo drivers didnt work) with msiextract/cabextract then loaded the generic firmware files to card using gobi-loader (search google).
Checking with lsusb the card exited the QDL mode (1 ttyUSB device) and appear to be recognized (3 ttyUSB devices).
4.I rebooted in win xp and now devices control panel there were two more gobi devices, the usb and the modem ones. The gobi card is recognized by Sony WebToGo. I didnt try to connect hovewer.
IMHO this happens because when you load the firmware in the card it remains in it (no matter the OS used) until you power off pc.
When connecting VisualGps to the gps nmea com port I got only null data,as in linux with minicom...because that "Auto tracking" switch needs to be enabled in some other connection manager software. -
I will give it a try again...

I fail on the firmware update step. I get "A device attached to the system is not functioning". In device manager I only get COM4, but I can't connect to it with Putty. Log:

I bought two Panasonic Gobi cards which turned out to be NOT Panasonic. Through trial and error and a search for the 9001 I found a Sierra wireless program for 9001. Here are some images from my MK1 CF-30.
I ran this card on a CF-52 (actually two of them ) and then switched one to the sled on a CF-30MK1. Verizon wireless is my carrier here so I used VZAM...NOT the Panasonic version. I paid for a month of service through Verizon. Worked fine. Too expensive but my wife is talking about stealing it from me as she needs wireless for business trips.
You will see four instances of Gobi in the device manager.
The GPS always worked even when using VZAM...or at least it appeared to.
Set-up was easy from the Sierra wireless package.
For what it's worth. I should have taken notes.....device manager shows "Qualcomm Gobi Package for Sierra".
GPS running as we speak. Viewing with Winfast Navigator.
Again...FWIW.

I managed to extract ThinkVantage_GPS.msi and got some files
cd 'new/Program Files/Lenovo/GPS Enabler' [xxx@sciacallo GPS Enabler]$ ls AcSv - Pastebin.com
and tried to copy them in windows, but the main programs dont work.
There's only a working commandline program called GPS.EXE that has no effect (I tried it in windows too, dont be fooled by the wine commandline)
Your "Qualcomm Gobi Package for Sierra" is the Fujitsu one, I don't think it includes a connection manager with an option to enable gps, it's just the driver and firmware.
I think your gps is working because you enabled it in VZAM or some other software.
My current situation:
-
You have to try firmware (the right one for your carrier) from different providers like Panasonic,Gateway,HP,Lenovo... until you find the working one. -
Here are the contents of the Sierra x86 file. It runs in my mind that there is a usb to serial driver working here somewhere.
I loaded the 9001 (I call it) since it was the one that matched my cards. It didn't seem to care what machine I was on. (Panasonic v.s. Fujitsu)
I'll work on finding the VZAM program.
Jeff
Edit: Using VZAccess Manager 7.3.3.1 (2515a) This is from [help][About VCAccess Manager] from CF-30. Found it also again at vzam.net consumer downloads,xp,embedded device,Fujitsu. I elected to match the vzam program with the card.(Fujitsu). -
