i really like Panasonic elite y5 when it comes to it's toughness and pretty design but when i look at it's detailed specifications i was turn off........ :( They only offer core duo 1.6ghz with at least 1gig of mem....... if only they could give a higher processor like 2 gig core 2 duo with 2 gigs of memory i would prefer to buy it even if the price is high...

panasonic notebooks are certified durable but not so powerful....sigh

This Y5 thing at 3.3 lbs with 14" screen is far lighter than many of the phony 12" screen 4.5lbs ultraportable machines out there. Why - power consumption. If it had a more powerful chip it would have higher heat dissipation, thus requiring a fan, bigger heat sink - and larger weight. It would also be heavier.

If you want a heavy computer there are many out there - this one is going to a minimum weight niche and in any case I can't think of anything that 1.6GHz Core Duo cannot do reasonably well. That is more than enough even for photoshop.

When the ULV version of Core2Duo chip comes out obviously Panasonic will got to that, but before that point there is actually no value in the current Core2Duo chip for an ultraportable machine. That is just chasing specs while making the machine less usable.

To put in 2 user upgradable SODIMM ram slots would be nice though.
Instead of limiting it to 1.5 gb non dual channel
