    is my CPU getting lazy?

    I notice this occasionally when i go into device manager. if i close it and re open it however, it goes back to 996 mhz. wierd huh?

    It is supposed to do that in order to save power and lower heat output when the system isn't being used. Google "intel speedstep" for more info.

    You might want to check Ctrl-Alt Del and see what processes are running... Or use this program... It's a cool freeware program that will tell you everything about what is running...

    You don't need speedstep with XP... It's already in there I thought... Controlled via the power panel.
