I just got my toughbook from city of mesa. so far it looks good the port replicator slide cover is cracked and one of the alignment pockets on the palm rest is missing the little metal cup those are the only problems. now a few questions. my model came with the rubber backlit unlike the other guy that got a chicklet emissive from city of mesa. Well how do I get it to light up. And also is there a way to hide the touchpad/screen driver program in the task manager. Im not a fan of a busy taskmanager.

does anyone want to trade? rubber for chicklet?

On my CF-19 I press FN + F12 to get my keyboard to light up. I press F12 holding the FN key 3 times for different levels of illumination. I don't know if its the same with the CF-29.

Yeah... Those cops need to learn to SLIDE THE DOOR OVER before they try to put it in their cruisers!

well took it apart and the 2 wire plug on the keyboard was in upside down. it now works but unfortunately there are a few spots that look like they might be tears or just thin spots I dont know. just look like lines around the key that the light shines through. bummer. The intel proset was being finiky so I uninstalled it and just use the windows wireless utility. I still cant figure out how to disable the touch pad/screen icons in the task manager or at least lose the Left Right switcher.

Yes the power connecter is installed opposite to what would seem logical

Update the wi-fi driver only from intel downloads, you need the latest driver
    The proset utility is junk

Its very normal for the rubber keyboard to have tears

You can disable start-up programs from showing this way

    Run, type in msconfig
In the startup tab uncheck the items that you do not want starting up
If you make a mistake and loose a function, just go back and check it

If you stop it from starting up... You will lose function. Unfortunately... You need those icons in the sys tray.

If you have tears in your rubber keyboard you can use 100% black silicone to repair it as long as it is not too big a tear. I use the tip of a straight pin, dig out just enough to coat the tip of the pin and run it just barely on each side of the tear. Then I carefully push them back together and a little silicone will ooze out. You can carefully wipe this up with a Q-tip or corner of a paper towel. It is a lot easier with a 10x magnifying headset. Something you should have in your arsenal anyway! ;)

I have always had better results when I only install the wifi card drivers and let the windows wifi utility take care of the connection.

testin out the battery now been using it about an hour and It says I got 4 hours left. Seems like this battery is about new. Peaks at 73260mwh. The screen protector has a few chunks of stuff under it and it has some abrasions.

Don't get discouraged though. Just keep thinking about the money you saved from not buying new. Also, if you really want to replace some of those parts they are not too god awful expensive.

Stick with the MS wireless. I have done some extensive testing between the 2 and the Intel is always slower, weaker signal, etc. The one thing I do like and use is there WiFi Manual Diagnostics. It runs a little test on your signal and such. You don't have to be using there software to handle your wireless in order for it to work!

Shackwrr, can you tell me where you got your City of Mesa Toughbook? I spoke with a MCSO reserve offier about his, but he was busy with a crime scene and I didn't get a chance to find out how he got his. Shoot me a private message or email. Thanks.

to hide unwanted icons from the system tray - right click the task bar and chose properties, in then customise and you can change the actions of all the items in the tray, without disabling them :)
