This is a private sale from a employee who worked in construction and selling his CF-29. Its protective plastic face has a crack in it "40 dollars plus shipping what the seller says". It has no OS Disk. It does have the serial code in the event I buy a exact windows xp replacement OS..or can this be done? It does have xp pro installed.

It has a 40 gig hard drive
It has 1.2 gig memory stick

Other then that, is had a power cord. No GPS inside it "Can a gps chip be purchased and installed in this unit?"

Other then that, the unit works from what the seller says.

I want to run Microsoft streets and trips on it, libre office "open office knockoff" and run other light applications on it.

What would be the going price for a used cf-29 with the above description?

For $40 you probably can't go wrong... But be ready to do some work on it... And we can help you through that.

The GPS is not jut a "chip".... You can buy OEM GPS and install it for around $150 at best... Or you can mod in your own for a little less.

    With a 40GB Hard drive and 1.28GB RAM... My guess is a 1.2GHz MK1 model or maybe a 1.3GHz MK2 model.

The "cracked" screen cover... I don't know... Maybe it is just scratched? I hope your screen isn't cracked... But that is fixable as well if it needs one.

    I'd do it!

A lot of this can be answered by reading the The CF-29 F.A.Q., and you really need to post the unit's complete Model Number (to-wit: CF-29xxxxxxx) in order to get the best answers.

    Nevertheless:

If needed, the OEM Panasonic CF-29 Series Product Recovery CD-ROM set is readily abvailable.
This is where the info starts getting "sticky" (not to be confused with the Forum's "Stickies" ;))

Is that 1.25 "gig" (GB) of memory, or 1.2 "gig" (GHz) of processor?

"Yes" (read the FAQ/Sticky and surf the Forum).

    "Caveat emptor."

The CF-29 in all iterations can handle the job.

    "Info; need info."

Read all above and then...Go for it...for that price, many are selling with NO operating system and missing hard drive...etc...This is a good starting place if you want to dive into the Toughbook Arena...you can always spend more, but "parts is parts"...

The drive alone if working is worth $60+. It's all fixable.

    Keyboard 20 +.

Buy parts here if you can because you get the knowledge along with the sale.

    Good luck. We wanna picture!

    Welcome.
