    Hi all,

have only been on this for a day or two since receiving my toughbook, but am astounded by the wealth of information here, it is extremely helpful and a credit to all who use this site.

I have noticed that a lot of the people on here who do mods etc. sell on ebay....i was wondering if there is a thread somewhere with shops on ebay that are operated by people on this forum. Have only had my toughbook about 4 days, but after reading about some of the mods here, I feel I am ready to start improving .....and maybe collect a few more along the way...

Thanks all and appreciate any info for the newbie.... :)

    Mick

Yes... Several of the forum members here also sell on ebay. More yet come here to read of our hard work and modifications, maybe ask a few questions and then suddenly appear on ebay as "The Expert" after asking elementary questions just one week before on this forum. There are all types... The people who want to help... And the vultures out to make a quick buck where they can.

My suggestion? Read.... A lot! You will find out about all the mods we have done, how they came about, how they are done and the parts needed... As well as those that pioneered them!

I discourage business on this forum. There are Toughbook business owners who are members here but they generally come and go. I think it is because, for the most part, people show up here AFTER they have bought their Toughbook asking for help on a given problem or are looking to modify their own Toughbook. The sellers simply find out that they aren't going to make any money by giving away free advice... So they go away. There may be a few exceptions... Such as some of the Techs that show up to answer some of the tougher questions as they know... They've been in the trenches.

    personally I feel that this forum is here to;
    1. Help new Toughbook owners get their toughbooks up and running after buying (shall we say) a less than perfect Toughbook. Gee... So it wasn't truly refurbished after all.... It happens.

    2. Discuss modifications to make to improve upon what Panasonic started or retrofit older toughbooks to newer specs. If you do the reading I siggested... You will find we have some SERIOUSLY wicked smart people on this forum. Personally... If I owned my own planet or country.... I would have 5-6 of them on my staff and they could literally write their own paychecks! (Yeah guys... I'll let you know when I reach that goal!)

    3. Help with misc. issues that people have about installing and upgrading their system software and drivers.

We (The Panasonic Forum here) are not like normal forums that you may have participated with/on the Internet.... We generally do not flame for people asking the same question over and over.... That is why I suggest reading a little. But still... I think you may have found a home here.

Just watch out for "That Disease" where you feel the need to go out and buy even more Toughbooks.... You have no reason... But you KNOW that you need them!

    Thanks TB,

will continue my reading....as far as the disease goes....didn't really have a reason to buy the first one, just knew I needed one, now that I have it, I know I'll never buy another "normal" laptop again.....chasing others to replace the other 2 "normal" aka BORING laptops for the wife and kids.

Again thanks for the welcome and the heads up info

    Cheers

Also on the note of ebay, was just interested if you guys sell some of the toughbooks you mod up, and if you do on ebay how to find which one's are modded by people here...saves getting caught like some other unfortunate people

    cheers

I started a thread here about a year ago regarding ebay and it turned into a monster (like 50+ pages) and we closed it down because it drove market prices up on anything Toughbook related because the people selling on ebay were looking at what we were discussing here and adjusting the prices up when they saw we had noticed a "good deal". Long story short, we kinda forbid that from now on and we closed that thread down.

I myself sell on eBay on behalf of my company (Proton Computers Inc). I am very reputable and people on here will confirm that... http://shop.ebay.com/protoncomputers1/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

I don't sell moded toughbooks like Rick and a lot of the others on here do. I just sell standard, stock toughbooks with maxed out memory.

Mick, you don't need a whole list to be sent down that slippery path but you'll have a helluva fun time sliding down [and finding you have lots of "needs"!!].

Welcome. Stay awhile.... at least until your entire household uses nothing but Toughbooks... like some of us!! :D

As Toughbook said we are not here on NBR to promote ourselves or to sell forum members anything

Read the buy and sell threads or post a wanted thread to find parts that you need

The forum members here always sell for a lot less than the equivalent part on ebay, as we are educated on pricing and often buy more than we need for our own use when deals come up and turn around and pass the savings off to others

I look at our regular contributers here as friends and treat them as friends, not customers

Occasionally we may come off as direct ,arrogant, short tempered etc
Well thats how I am around my friends lol

There are but three things whose ownership matters in this world, quality firearms, Nikon cameras and ToughBook computers. I had recently decided I needed a TB 19 to go with my TB 30. Why do I need a 19 you ask? Have you ever tried lying on the couch with a TB 30 on your chest trying to work? It shortly mimics the symptoms of cardiac arrest.
I am glad that this question was asked because while looking on EBay, I was trying to determine the same information myself. I have had a tremendous amount of help from some outstanding members of the forum and because of that, I want to pay it forward. So, that being said, where is my CF-19?

as with any community there are people who are in it for themselves. i personally am thankful for finding this site. there are TECH sites but none specifically toughbook related. since most of the users have OLDER models it is very hard to get help on other forums as they deal with ddr2/3 and newer processors as well as sata and not pata.

i am new and obviously dont have alot of info toughbook related, but i do have a lot of general tech wisdom. so i wont answer alot of questions but there will come a time.

oh and i get toughbooks for my friends cause we all think they are so sweet
nothing majorly ebay as of yet
