I was looking into mobile broadband through sprint. I know these came with cards in them for that but how would one of these work modded into the inside. They have an external antenna port that you could wire to the stock antenna. Has anyone tried it?

I think you have a cf-29
Do you have the wwan optioned model ,with a wwan antenna on the lid?

Shack... You need to take away the "rides" portion and put in your TOUGHBOOK info. We see the mud on your tires... We know you drive... We know WHAT you drive.
But when you ask a question we either have to try to remember your exact model or refer to another post to see what you have. This will either delay a response or bore the heck out of the one or ten people that may have an answer... But don't know what model you have.
Do you list your Toughbook info on your Jeep forum?
(I love your truck by the way!) -
I did it on both the computer forums I am on. I am more of a car guy than a computer guy. I know about computers but its not my hobby. The toughbook is being shipped I dont know the model number yet this is about the closest I can get: CF-29EANGXBM I know its wireless ready and has the antenna.

Shack... You bought through Mesa, yes? You are then wwan ready... All you need is the plug-in... I just hapen to have a Verizon modem (I think EVDO) that I can work you a most excellent deal on if you are interested. But you should wait to see what arrives first probably.
Just let me know!
EDIT: Thanks for adding your info BTW.... It helps more than you know! -
I also have a Verizon modem that would work
But you would like a Sprint ,is Sprint a good provider for your area?
Alex -
Well i just love how clean the insall of this Gps is But I dont think a normal wireless modem will fit with it.

I just like how well designed it is. I am not afarid to solder but I dont want to have to solder tiny stuff and have it all over the place.
Edit: Well I guess it wouldnt be too bad with the modem sled but will that active patch antenna fit there? -
shack -
Good find! I'm sure some of our "soldering-challenged" members will be glad to see this! Plus, it's an easy way to add an internal USB port to a CF-29!
Thanks! I've added it to the CF-29 FAQ! Hope this supplier lasts more than a fortnight!
EDIT:
Actually, a little research shows that this vendor is located in Arendal, Norway, and has been selling this kit since June on eBay with 100% Positive feedback. Maybe he WILL be around for a while!

Wahey! New stuff every day! -
Report back what cellular data provider that your unit is set for, usualy there will be a Tag on the bottom with the ESN number and provider name
It might already be a sprint modem
That kit that Vincent sells displaces your stock wwan, and is a breakout of the mainboard connector cn18 so you will have to remove your wwan sled and interfaces as you won't be able to use it if you decided to install that kit
The usb output on the kit will work for a usb wwan ,you will just need to interface your standard antenna to the usb sierra wireless modem
Alex -
for some reason i thought that seller was also a member here...
would be nice if he/she did a cf-18 kit -
Alex -
Yep .. a good GPS kit for CF-18 would be nice

thanks -
I figured your guys knew about that setup. It seems to use alright components The gps isn't the one you guys use but its still the same sirfstar III chip. I think its the 25dbi active patch antenna so Its close to the sarentel nub. I wonder if that usb port can handle a small hub? maybe for an internal thumb-drive or security key. Also I know that bluetooth woudnt work well under all that metal but I saw an even smaller bluetooth adapter that would fit in the recessed usb port. You would just have to attach a small tether so you could retrieve it.
Another question. Does anyone have the specs on the output power on the stock sled. I wonder how it compares to the power of the usb setup. -
If the internal Bluetooth is close to a side plastic cover it might work well enough for a mouse, and for cell phone/pda synchronizing
For vehicle use your first option/thought of using a usb gps was a good idea
I have had conflicting info from users of this setup as to the performance of the gps, and that can be due to many factors, location of antenna, and parts used and how fussy the user is
Teo’s gps Sarantel antenna in lid Mod is higher and more omidirectonal than the patch antenna
I am personally very critical of gps performance, others that might use gps occasionally consider the gps just another toy might not be so critical
I will be trying the gps engine module used in this kit, its a holux GR-87 in a couple of weeks in the first aftermarket cf-30 gps installation that Teo and myself are working on
I will post on the cf-30 installation later, and I have a stock cf-30 gps in another of my cf-30’s to compare with
You do have many options/choices to make
