hi bros
hi, i receive the item this morning. SEJAT SJ-5210 : USB Mouse GPS Receiver w/ SiRF star III
SEJAT SJ-5210 : USB Mouse GPS Receiver w/ SiRF star III - eBay (item 390208081160 end time Jul-11-10 13:06:07 PDT)
i try to install and use it right away.
following the instruction, i found it connects with COM8 and baudrate 4800.
it seems it will work because all drivers were installed successfully, however, it always say "A connection with the server could not be established" whenever I click on ROM AGPS. Even if I tried to restart my computer many times, plug in and out the GPS many times.
so, it can not download the file Eph.dat as the instruction, and absolutely it can not work.
please give me your advice if this one can work with another way.
thank you very much

UPDATE:
now it downloaded the file Eph.dat successfully. and it also Set emphemeris successfully.
however, finally it said: Target time out and stuck there.
Do you have any idea to get it works?
One more quest: which software for GPS you prefer ( i will work with it in Australia)
Thank you -
I would try swapping COM ports...

AGPS-> Asissted GPS: Assisted GPS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This will give u a lot of answers ;-) -
Not sure if you are using "AGPS", but if you are, according to the wiki pointed to by onirakiss, your GPS requires a cell phone or wifi connection to function. Based on the eBay listing I'm guessing this GPS is a Chinese cheapo and if nothing else I would be suspect of the drivers supplied with the unit. Neither of the error messages you have quoted sound anything like GPS errors to me.
Not all GPS receivers are created equal.
CAP -
thank you very much.
finally i found the errors:
- I enable the firewall, and it can download the Eph.dat file which set up the COM port is 8.
- I download Microsoft Street and Trips 2007 and 2009 map for USA, and I get all working well inside the room (I live in second floor with another floor above my room, and staying in the middle of the room) with 6-8 satellites always, locking position is very fast. -
anyway, I still need the help for the question: which software could be good for using GPS in Australia where I will be in next month.
thank you for your advice -
Probably this one, for which You may find the best map.
By the way, one of my USB GPSs is the same, for even less price. No problems with it. And as You say, in the middle of the room, 3-4 satellites are in green -
ANYWAY, I take apart the whole device and I am stuck in putting this one under the case of my cf-29. whenever I put it under the case, it always says "Device error" then lost the signal asap. Even if I tried to solder another external antenna for this one, but it did not work when it stays right under the aluminum case. -
Yes, that's what I mean.
The different maps are bound by different software, aren't they?
I live in small country for which there isn't good detailed maps. Even more for offroading. Here one team of enthusiasts create and develop our map. But they work with Garmin software. That's why we are bound by Garmin and it's the most popular here, not because it is the best. But works. The same is situation and in the neighbour countries.
I think, for Australia, because is very popular destination, You have a great choice of maps (and softwares).
And this is the situation with the satellites.
It's clear, that You have no chance if the antenna is under metal case. Must try to find space under plastic covers, or to add something like in CF18/19.
Please, if it is possible for you, attach a shot of naked PCB of this mouse GPS. I need to see it before to decide to demolish and mine.Attached Files:

i will post the photos some days later, because now I have to go on my trip to Australia. When I am there, I will mod this GPS out side of the CF-29 (i tried it and I knew that it would work under the bottom case), then give photos to you and this thread.
