I have a CF-30 MK3 and my hard drive just died, what would be the best choice for SSD drive for under $100? I'm I only able to buy SATA2 or can I go with Sata 3?

Well $100.00 is really not going to get you a new SSD but on ebay it could get you a 80GB to 100GB. Don't worry about sata 1, 2 or 3 because it will only run as fast as you motherboard is made to.. look for Intel , Samsung or Kingston...thats what I have

I have went the used SSD route myself. Currently have my Girl friends old CF-19 Mk1 with the Intel X25 40gb hd (her back up pc)(It is still used daily by her oldest son). Her newer toughbook the CF-19 Mk2 got a 80 GB SSD Intel X25 (used daily by her for work, school and general internet) . My daughter has a X25 Intel 40 GB in her CF-74 Mk3 (internet, videos and games usage). The other two younger kids will be upgraded to X25 SSD if there already loaded hard drive crashes or dies (I have the drives on hand already). My personal CF-30 Mk2 and CF-19 Mk2 will be getting 160gb and 80gb X25 ssd soon when I have time to swap the drives and reload the unit. The girlfriend will be getting a CF-74 Mk4 with 60gb SSD X25 intel this time home. All of those drives are used. I put them in a external enclosure when I got them and tested their health. Health was still in the upper 90's with them. Three of them so far have been used daily for over a year with out any problems.

IF I increased my budget to $150 which new ssd would be a smart choice?capacity is not really an issue, 80 gigabytes would be just fine.

I second toughasnails suggestion to subscribe to newegg. I got the 256 GB Samsung 830 for $135 not long ago. It went in my MacBook. Before that, I also got a 180 GB Intel 330 for $119. That's in my CF-30. Samsung's 830 (not the pro version) and Intel's 330 are not the top of the line SSDs, but mine work great, and have given me absolutely no problems.
