Why not silverplate it.It is a small part and should not cost that much.
Also u could buy harcoating/heat resistant paint(why?:heat generated by your
fingers and sweat may peel off the paint)
    Its a shot

First of all welcome to the forum.... Second off... Ignore the HP, Asus and Dell input... They don't have a clue about Toughbooks!

The palmrest can be purchased seperately, part number DFKM8138YA-0. Or you can make your own. I have seen pictures of others where they have used a plastic carbon fiber sheet to cover the palmrest area. You would have to be careful to have it turn out well. I'm not sure how well it would wear but it would be cheap enough to reapply.

I don't know of anyone adding a gps to the cf-72

The motherboard does have connecters for the rim wireless , so if the pinouts could be figured out, there is a com-port to use and power on the board as well

Done a few 72's - GPS internal is a NO - like Tomcat said the MOBO is just not set up for it and not enough room. You can however add WIFI pretty easy - just need to be able to slit the case and it has an internal slot for a WIFI card and then just run to an antenna. You have two choices for the antenna first is just to run a short UFL to RPSMA out the side, I can send you a pic of the best spot I have found behind a blank panel. Second is to run a simple small paddle style and put it at the top of the lid, just play around with it and remove any extra metal from the paddle and it will fit nice and neat.
As far as the palm rest I my have an extra in good shape - will look and let you know via a PM as soon as I get a minute to look.

    Mega-Man knows his Cf-72's :)
I have added the wi-fi the same way with either using the Rim style antenna if equipped or hiding antenna’s in the lid
