got a toughbook cf w2, i'd like to make the screen black while I VNC to it. Is that possible?

I don't mind accessing it physically and making it black as long as I can VNC to it.

If the W2 has the F3 hot key to toggle the display internal/external/both, just switching to external would be a quick and easy way to do what you want.

my hotkeys are working 'cos I can use Fn+F4 to mute/unmute volume, but Fn+F3 just makes a blink.

    can you elaborate?

Wouldn't work for his VNC ( Virtual Network Computing) needs, as he needs to be able to see the desktop on his "client" end, while he's wanting anyone at the host/server computer to see a blank ("black") screen/desktop.

[F3]'ing the display to an "external" display would probably render his remote view blank, too, since he's not "viewing" the desktop through a locally-connected "monitor".

ralphzak: see if this is of any assistance:

    UltraVnc Configuration:

Enable Blank Monitor on Viewer Request

Allow viewers to disable the monitor if they request so

    Simple:

    1) The BIOS has to be set to "Simultaneous" display; and,
    2) There has to actually be an external monitor connected. :p

Otherwise when the system detects that there is no external monitor actually connected to the External Display (VGA) port it will automatically switch back to the internal display (or at least that's what my CF-29 just did when I tried it :)).
