Hello one and all. My name is Dragonsoldier and I have some questions regarding cf-28. I have done the google search and found this site and then searched this site. I noticed alot of mods going on. I am trying to figure out if all the 28s have gps on board or a select few. 2. Can someone please provide me with a materials list for doing the external antenna I saw posted. 3. Does the 28 have an internal pcmcia port and if so can i use that for a SIRF gps card with an external antenna. I used these in Iraq but we had BFT on most of them. Thank you one and all.

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you have a lot of reading/research ahead of you. To answer your questions...
1. Not all CF-28s have GPS. You can go to the Configurator and enter model numbers and find out what yours (or anyone elses) was originally built like. Though more and more these days that doesn't always tell you the whole story with people swapping stuff all the time. GPS is not a widespread option. They are out there but not on a lot of CF-28s. You can read about our mod to add aftermarket GPS which is 20X better than the stock setup!
2. The side mounted antenna? For that you need a good wifi card. (Atheros based preferably)... A 12" U.fl to SMA bulkhead connector and a good SMA wifi antenna.
3. Yes... The CF-28 has an internal PCMCIA slot. Only a limited amount of cards will fit in there because it is a VERY tight squeeze. Others may fit with either a slight mod to the card or to the cover. (Some dremeling mightneed to be done.) I doubt very seriously if a GPS card will fit in there. Where is your source for these? Your best bet is to read about which cards WILL fit and then find the specs on them and then the GPS card.
Good luck and keep us posted. -

Welcome Dragonsoldier.
This link will be your best friend http://forum.notebookreview.com/search.php .
I suggest using the Search by User Name function and start with Toughbook then in no particular order Modly Gravitar Djacid.
Not that these guys are the only ones helping and answering questions, they are just correct and easiest to understand the most.
This was the option I used for about two months and not only did I learn alot but they answered all of my questions before I asked them.

Got a link for that GPS card, dragonsoldier? The more info about GPS (and hardware) we can find, the better our info will be.
On a side note, which branch and division did you serve with in Iraq? My brother was in the Army 101st division, 1st brigade, 327th infantry.
Therefore, I support our troops, and any question you've got, I'll try to answer.
