Well, the inevitable has happened, and our office was burgled last night. Among the items taken was my CF-28.

Although I'm pissed off about this, the company will cover the cost of a similar replacement model, so it's my opportunity to upgrade.

    I am looking at CF-29s, specifically a CF29ETKGZBM.

    A couple of quick questions:

are there any known issues with this model?

I still have a spare battery for my CF-28. Will it fit the CF-29?

I have a police-surplus Panasonic car mount for the CF-28. Will the CF-29 fit in it?

Thanks for any info you can offer...

No issues /problems with the mk-2, and the standard intel2200bg wi-fi card is a huge improvement over the mk-1’s 2100b

No, the battery in the cf-29 is different than the cf-28, the cf-29 cf-51 and cf-52 use the same battery

If you have a spare floppy drive or optical caddy, they are the same, but the ac adapter is different

I don’t remember for sure on the fit on the docking stations, it might work
    do you have a Panasonic?

I have a insanely overbuilt steel car mount (unsure of manufacturer but someone told me it might be Panasonic or a Pana subcontractor) which came from an RCMP auction. It locks and weighs about 30lbs. I guess if the CF29 doesn't fit it I will be selling it here :p

I guess I will take this opporetunity to move to a 29, since on-board WiFi is something my 28 was lacking (I used a PC card for Wi-Fi but it took up valuable real estate in the card bay). So all the Mk 2s have built in Wi-Fi?

Is the USB port in the Mk 2 a 2.0 connection?

    Shame about the battery - it's new. I also have a 12v charger which I guess I can't use, either. D'oh.

How much would you be asking for the battery, and the charger? :D

and out come the vultures. :D

Not sure which model I'm buying yet. When I decide, I'll post anything I have for sale in a different thread.

I also have a regular locking port replicator and a double battery charger. I forgot I even had them. Sure hope the 29 fits the mounts.

All except the federal models have wi-fi
Its quite rare not to have it , and all cf-29's have the wi-fi antennas so its just an easy card instalation if needed

    Yes all cf-29's have usb2

The Gamber/Johnson mount I have fits both the 28 and 29 (and the 27). I would assume that any other manufacturers would fit all three models also.

I just dug mine out of storage - It's a "Precision Mounting Technologies" unit which is stamped CF27/28. It might fit - who knows?

Just FYI, the CF-29 does, in fact, fit the CF-28 car mount. Not sure about the mount's power supply as I have yet to wire it in, but I suspect it will work fine.

Not ALL mounts work with all models but most do. I have an older mount downstairs that will ot fit the CF-28/29 withut modification.

One thing to keep in mind is that the AC adapter plug is different. I have the locking port replicator which came with my CF-28, and my CF-29 physically fits in it, but the power cord doesn't. And of course the socket in the 29 can't be accessed because there is part of the port replicator which blocks it. I'll have to cut that part of the p/r off and see if that works.
