Hello, excellent forum you've got here.
I'm wondering if anyone can give me a recommendation for a used laptop that will undergo repeated opening and closing. Between 5 and 25 times per day. Every laptop I've had thus far eventually fails, either the cable or the inverter, due to this constant flexing. My current laptop did so within less than a year. This is good because it means they're fixing it under warranty, it's bad because I know it will soon fail again. Money for the suggested laptop will come from the sale of the current one. Unfortunately this means that a CF-29 is probably out of the question. I expect to net about $250 from this one, which means that its replacement can't cost that much and still need things like a battery or an A/C adapter as so many CF-29's on eBay in this price range do. I don't really need the all weather durability of a CF-29, though it would be a nice plus. What I really need is something that can be opened and closed ad nauseum.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions,
    Keith

Welcome to the forum. A little warning once you have 1 you will want MORE :D
You can get a CF-29 for that but will take some looking. They are a few 1.2MHz for $220.00 or best offer and even some 1.4MHz . Check this out and see eBay - Computers Networking, Apple Macintosh Computers and Desktop PC Components items on eBay.com. Find IT on eBay.

I deal with cf-29's all day at work, I have only replaced a handful of lcd cables on the 29's. most of them where cut because someone tried to get in and fix a dim backlight by rigging a new cable into the old one. The cf-29s are used by police, military, ems, verizon, att, etc. so I would say they stand up to repeated opening/closings real well.

Ah ha! A forum of enablers. Well there's no denying that a CF-29 is truly what I would like to have. I guess I'll just have to see what's available in my price range after my other computer comes back from the repair shop and then subsequently sells. If I can't find one when the time arrives, I'll worry about what my alternatives are then.

Plus, it seems that if the one I buy doesn't have exactly every option I want there are plenty of opportunities to upgrade later.

EXACTLY! Start with what you really need at a price you can afford. Then a few easy mods, then a few more cool mods, then ..... :D

As too your opening/closing question; I open/close mine at least 50 times a day. That is also while being mounted in a vehicle docking station. Not one problem in 2 years. It's still as tight as day one. On my CF-30 MK2 I tightened up the tension a little because I like it that way.

Try your best to get one, you'll never regret it!

I've opened and closed my CF-30 about 50 times a day for the last 4 years straight... not an issue yet... What you have to remember here is that Panasonic Toughbooks are NOT ordinary computers and are designed for the working man!

Go ahead I dare ya!, open/close it 100000 times a day for the next 10 years and it will be FINE!

Since that would be 1.157 times per second I don't think his wrists would stand up to the strain.
