my cf 28 came with a cdrom in the media port, i want to replace it with a dvdrw. i have a couple of dvdrw's but both of them have a larger plastic fascia than the original drive so they won't physically fit in the caddy without trimming the plastic considerably. does anyone know of a dvdrw drive that is a good fit (apart from the panasonic one obviously!). i know about soldering the pins to make the drive a master, and have tried one of my drives to make sure it works ok. the only snag is the drive can't open and close because of the fascia.

Currently it seems everyone is buying Panasonic drives to swap in. There have been some recent posts on the subject.

I believe the term you are looking for is a "slim line" one. With the soldering mod that TB shared, you should be able to use just about any after-market one that is "slim line".

i have seen dvd drives that are called slimline with fascias that are too big so i thought the term referred to any laptop dvd drive, and not every laptop drive fits as i found out.

I used a LG drive and the faceplate seemed to be the same size. Might look at those as well

Or if you are not sure, just buy a panasonic slim line brand and all of its face plate are transferable, as far as I know.
