It depends on the scratch. Most scratches cannot be removed... But they can be disguised a little. Fine surface scratches can be removed to some degree. In the past I have used a mixture or Flitz then a product made to take the yellowing off of headlights (The name is Headlight Lens Restorer) then a twin pack of Apple Sauce. (Apple Sauce is made for taking scratches out of iPods) The problem with polishing out the scratches is two-fold...
    1. It takes A LOT of time and patience... I'm talking HOURS... to polish out scratches.
    2. It leaves the touchscreen rather glossy instead of matte finished.
    3. You CAN break the touchscreen if you push too hard while polishing.

I've done this 3-4 times and it is NO fun at all. You might be money ahead by buying a new touchscreen. You can usually pick them up for $100 or less if you watch for them.

The lens flare from the camera kind of obscures the scratch. It looks like the anti-reflective coating is wearing off a little though. More reason probably for you to polish the screen... Or buy a new one.

Question - is it possible to replace the anti-reflective coating screen piece of a touchscreen w/o replacing the entire unit?

Only if it's the removable kind as in screen protector. If it's part of the glass like on some of the 28s or on all of the 27s, then no.

How can you tell the difference?
I've never worked with touchscreens before and have had very very limited experience with LCD screens so I would rather get all the advice I can than probing around and potentially breaking something.... thanks.

I think we are talking about two different things. The regular laptop comes without the screen protector. On the screen is an anti-reflective coating... Usually a blue hue or tint. This comes off in places sometimes... Usually when a screen protector has been on and then is pulled off... But it also wears off from use of the touchscreen. There is no way this film can be put back on. What you need to do is to take the rest of it off! Rubbing alcohol, a paper towel and 2 hours of elbow grease WILL take it off. That is what I do. It is NOT fun and will definitely wear your fingers to the bone. You can try to hide it by putting on a screen protector. But you may still see where the coating has worn off.

With the CF-28... You're pretty much out of luck. You may want to look into a new backlight to make the screen brighter. The anti reflective coating doesn't help that much. It isn't going to make the difference of being able to read it outside or not...

Its sounds funny to you guys but here is my situation. I received the cf-29 unit, it powers up, I loaded windows and all of its drivers and its doin fine. My problem is The screen has three dip scratches and it is barely noticeable. Other thing is Half of the screen has a glossy finish and other half is not. I notice that it has a glossy screen when it is brand new and probably it start paling off but I can't take it off totaly. Any Idea how to take off its glossy half sreen coat.

I dismantle the whole LCD screen hoping that it maybe part of a protector but it is not Its part of touchscreen panel glass.

I tied to google the part no. That Zero...and Tbtech... given. It give me nothing. Any idea where can I find the part?

    Thanks

ohlip... Heartland stocks pretty much everything for the CF-29... You should try there... Either that or ebay... Whatever you want... It will be on ebay withing 2-3 months.

Niteflight.... The orange color is a sign that the backlight has just about had it. Does it get brighter the longer you leave it on? It may go on for years like that or it may go out tomorrow. You may want to change the backlight.

Didn't you have a 12" daylight readable screen to? What not swap that back on for daylight viewing?

Toughbook - thanks for the advice, no i didn't , I had another 13.3 no touch that had some major reflective coating issues....and secondly where would i go about looking for the parts to replace the backlight (possibly a brighter one per your suggestions above) and what is involved with that.
    Thanks,
    Ty

    Nite -

I've posted quite a bit on this subject; although I haven't changed a backlight tube on a ToughBook, I HAVE done on many other makes. do a search for "mnem ccfl" and you should hit most of the important stuff.\
