Is there a trick to get the sd card reader working on a cf-29 with xp

The card reader shows up in device manager, but i can't get any card to be seen in explorer.

The cards work on a external usb card reader.
I have the dll in win32 and the sd utility, so i think the reader is dead
The led light of the reader blink when i put a card in, but then stops.

    Any ideas?

I think it was discussed a while back that the reader can't access SDHC cards of certain capacity. That said, I have no issues with CF29N reading a 8gb MicroSD (in a SD card adapter).

Thanks for the answer, i tested it now with an old 556 Mb card, and it works

so it can't be used for ready boost, as it needs fast and at least 1Gb of space for that :(

How big a card are you trying to use? 2GB SD Cards work fine in my CF-29 SD card reader.

I have read that the limit is 8GB, but have never tested my CF-29N beyond 4GB, which works fine for ReadyBoost.

    Hi to all,

I have just tryed a 16GB SDHC card in my CF-29 Mk5 and it works and works very well. It's faster in the card reader built in the cf-29 than my high speed usb card reader.

O I am so happy that my 16Gb SDHC card works in my CF-29 and it can stay in there even with the cover closed :)

The 512 works, the others not
They all work with a usb reader (format= Fat 32)
The windows patch is outdated (i use SP3)

    any other idea's ?

I don't understand, are you trying it under XP, or Vista/Win7?

You may have done this, but if not you might try it. Try putting your 2 gig sd in a usb reader in a different computer and use the safe eject in a usb reader. I had one that wouldn't read in a device and that's all i did and it fixed my problem.

I tried it on Win7, and it didn't read it.
Then i did go back to XP, and it didn't read it

    And it still doesn't
There must be a way, as it reads the 512Mb
    I keep trying different methods
Device manager shows a Ricoh SD card reader

One Idea... reformat all three on your toughbook. If they don't show up did you check Disk Management? (Right click "My Computer" click "Manage" Click on "Disk Management" in the left hand column)

The plot thickens... but I don't know who else to shoot!

Stupid question of the day... is there such a thing as corrupted MBR/partition on SD cards???

Yes, this can happen. I've seen it... Usually a re-format will fix it though... I don't know what else to do... Maybe spend $4.16 for a new 4GB one?? :D

    Problem solved :)

I just re installed the card reader with the sd card in it, and there he was :p

I installed eboostr (beta), and i can recommend it, it opens programs a lot faster than before.

    see http://www.eboostr.com/

I uninstalled the card reader in device manager, and than let windows search for new hardware and install it again with the sd card in it, et voila

    Good fix!

Out of curiosity, did you have the 512MB flash card already in the computer reader when you installed the OS?

No, there was no card in it when i installed the OS.
The funny thing is that i uninstalled Win 7 for it and it didn't work in XP so i tried an old 512, and it worked

Windows is always a surprise for me :D
