i'll bet i am not the only one that has wished that there was a way to EQ the audio on a TB or what-have-you and not had to use a hardware based solution and patch cables .
oh sure , there is winamp and VLC but these solutions have something left to be desired (kinda lame actually) .
then there is the *supposed* EQs found in some of the software for the native audio on the motherboard (think realtek) ... they suck .
there is a solution ...
starting with vista(less) in the *direct audio* (counterpart of windows directx) there was a software "socket" that was designed to allow the "plugging in" of what are/is called APOs (audio processing objects) ...
this would be the software equivalent of *tape in/out* or *pre/main out and in* .
this solved the requirement of using some program that has an EQ as an afterthought and the use of patch cables .
the program :
https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/
the documentation :
https://sourceforge.net/p/equalizerapo/wiki/Documentation/
more advanced material (aka : hair pulling) :
https://sourceforge.net/p/equalizerapo/wiki/Configuration reference/
this is actually more than an EQ program ...
it can be used in different modes (ie : graphic and parametric) .
it is also capable of "shooting a room" with a calibrated microphone to compensate for the room acoustics .
(this is something i did manually for different venues)
all in all , this is a program i believe worthy of installation .
this program will not do much for the speakers in a laptop but for decent headphones and driving an outboard audio system , it is a definite improvement .

heh ... yeah , i suppose that might something to pursue .
on the other hand , i recall the words of a retired engineer friend of mine :
"you can't polish a t ..."
but , i shall digress .
while an EQ would improve the audio on the speakers used in laptops (and such) , i would hazard that it would only be 5% or there about .
i do not believe that there is much room for improvement (literally) .
the amount of space allocated for speakers is most likely governed by :
"how much do you need ? , times .25" .
i am planning on installing the software on the '30 , 31 , and '52 plus all my other windows machines . -
You can't polish a T...oughbook?
Someone did. I can't recall who. Maybe I can find a photo.
Here it is.
NO I did not do this
NO I do not glue tires to my Toughbooks
NO I am not going to tell you who or where.
Azrial and toughasnails like this. -
now there is an idea ... sans the tire tread .
finish it with a "candy apple" color .
software based EQ for windows on your TB/TP ...
