A while ago I saw in a thread someone asking where thee ebay-ers get their surplus Panasonic equipment to resell.

I'm a cop and work for a really, really small department, so we are different than most. HOWEVER, I just spoke to the assistant fire chief for the next city over (who is also pretty small) and asked them when they were getting rid of their CF-74's.

He told me to contact him in July. July is when the next fiscal year comes around. If an agency is going to be replacing their equipment, that's usually when it's done. He told me he allows people to bid on them. I asked him what the average price was for their last go-around on their CF-74,s, and dependant on condition (WITH docking stations), they were going for between $150 and $300. They are all touchscreens.

So for others around the country, maybe check around summer time and see when these agencies are getting ready to dump their stuff for newer.

Also, if possible, I'd recommend getting stuff from the fire department. In my experience, it's in better shape. We take our laptops home with us, fire guys just leave them in their vehicles. Less wear. Conditions may vary however depending on your location.

For us- we're real small. We just replace stuff when needed. We could go a while before we change stuff out. I have a CF-29N that I got new two years ago in 2006 from CDW Government and probably will have it for another 3 before I dare ask for a new one.

But in July, I'll be buying up some CF-74's and cleaning them up for resale.

I'm a firefighter and I agree, ours are in better shape usually. We never take them into a fire lol, they pretty much always stay in the vehicle at all times.
