hi all my name is nick and i have wanted a ToughBook for a few years now i wish i had one when i was 13 when i had my 386 tandy laptop that i took to and from school on my bike.... but i wanted to know what made you all want a ToughBook. the reason that i picked one up is that i am into off roading and a bit of a geek i am going to set it up for gps nav and automotive control with AutoTap, plus maybe a little in car entertainment for music only

i drive a 2006 Jeep KJ Liberty it would be helpful to me if there is anyone with a kj that has setup a laptop in a jeep if you could post some pics of the setup i am looking for ideas on mounts i am thinking of a ram mount or a joto any other ideas welcom

Welcome to the forum, and yes, we have at least one other member that offroads and has a killer mount setup he uses and has posted pics in the past. I believe he also has a jeep but don't quote me on that. I am sure he will chime in soon enough so be patient and welcome to the madness.

Welcome to the board. You will gain a tremendous amount of knowledge, along with some great guys. You will find this place is a little different than most other forums, for the good of course!

Read the stickies at the top for a good start.

The only mounts I use is www.gamberjohnson.com. I have seen alot of Jotto's in some of our unit's cars and they just don't hold up, alot of shaking, etc. Remember, you get what you pay for......

Jotto Desk = Junk. They are so wobbly that we had to guy them in place. Not that some guy supports wold be a bad idea for off road...

Welcome to the forum! Yes... We are all Toughbook fanatics... As you would think.

I have a Hummer H3 now that I am about to sell... My next car/truck though is going to be set up a lot differently. I'm thinking about setting up a port replicator and fitting it under a seat or in a spare space somewhere.... Then running a 7" touchscreen up to the dash in a double din spot. Then I can have wifi, storage, wireless keyboard (for when I am stopped obviously) and a few other items.... That way... I can have all the functionality of the laptop at the dash level for street navigation... Maybe some speech to text for emails... Something like that. BUT... Then I can always remove the Toughbook from the dock and use it when needed while I am away. So my vehicle will use it... But I'll always have one traveling with me that way.

    Just a thought.
