My 29's touchpad has developed a small hole in the top grey plastic layer which is exposing the black layer underneath.
The touchpad still works fine, but the top layer is gradually starting to come apart more where the small hole developed and over time I'm sure this will affect the touchpad's performance, eventually making it unusable.
What's involved in firstly sourcing, and then installing, a new replacement touchpad into a CF29?

Hard part is getting the palmrest off without destroying it. I use a wide putty knife and a hairdryer/heatgun.

Or you can do what I did and put a little drop of 5 minute epoxy on the hole that developed on my old CF-30. The repair has lasted a couple of years.

on eBay now there is a top half for $35.00 . That might work out better for you because if you mess up the palm rest it will cost you more and you still need to get a new cover for the touch pad too...my guess that will cost $20.00+

I've got a Palm rest with a good touch pad in the garage off a CF-29n. ..if it would fit your needs..
Edit: just saw your in au....might cost to much to ship lol -
Or you could upgrade to a CF-30! That's what I would do!

I agree with toughbook....that's what I had done when my mmother boardwent out in my29

Too bad you are in the AU,I have a mk5 I need to get rid of cheap, buggy touchscreen but otherwise works great. Perfect to make 1 out of 2. Just taking up space here.

Considering that one. But need to be employed before I can get a replacement system. In the meantime, if I can track down a non-working cf29 here in Oz I might get lucky.

Tape?
PTFE (teflon) not the tape for plumbing, or Kapton tape? PTFE would be my choice 3M 5481...
