I couldnt fnd it reading the Faq .
my cf29h has an option to enable touchscreen in the bios.
but when booting up the touchscreen doesnt work.
my question is how do you know if you have a touchscreen or not?
will the bios display that option no matter what?
also when booting up windows xp doesnt detect any unknown device after enabling it. would it detect anything if it was a touch screen? and would device manager be a way to verify?

check out panasonic configurator link ,google it and list you cf-29XXXXXXX id number when you go under listing of discontinued laptops fully rugged or the listing choices that are given, the second letter will either be a T or as you scroll down it will explain code and tell you if is a touchscreen. then again, someone could have upgraded your laptop. If it didn't work to start with, it probably is non functioning, wait a bit TopCop will send you the links I'm sure

well it is a cf-29htm50bm model which I am guessing means Touchscreen.
I did the toothpick trick but that didnt enable it.
should the finger work or do I need a special stylus?
i'm not to picky on if it works or not. I traded a old fujitsu I had for it. and I got the dvdrw working and upgrade the hd to 120gb so far I have been doing good. -
The cf-29htm50bm is an ex SBC unit. They had touchscreens, but on many of the used ones, the touchscreen is shot. Make sure you have the correct drivers for the touchscreen. They can be confusing.

is mouse_29_2b_d030178 the correct driver?
-
I came up with this driver. The one you posted appears to be for a mark 2 and the CF 29H is a mark 3
Model: CF-29[H/J]T(mk3) Windows XP Pro SP2 CF-29[H/J]TxxxBx
cf-29htm50bm touchscreen touchpad driver -

For some reason the USA site is showing a different one ??
Toughbook Computer Support - Search Downloads
Download Details:
Title:Touch Pad Driver
Model Number:CF-29[H/J]3(mk3)
CF-29[H/J]3xxxBx
Operating System:Windows XP
SP2Language:English
Release Date:02/03/2005
File Name: mouse_29_3_d030230.exe [357.8 kb]
If you do a quick search of the forum you will find that most of these SBC 29's touchscreens are dead. If the seller sold this to you as working then send it back -
It is an exe so when you click on it, it will install itself to a directory called utilities/ drivers/mouse or touchscreen. I don't have my 29 booted at this moment to verify the exact directory.
I don't remember having to do any manual install from the device manager. -
Model Number:CF-29[H/J] 3(mk3) mouse_29_3_d030230.exe
This is non touchscreen model driver
Model Number:CF-29[H/J] T(mk3) mouse_29_3_d030178.exe
This is the touchscreen model driver -
it looks like its an inoperable touch screen.
could there be a cable loose inside? and how does it become inoperable? it looks like its in perfect condition? -

I did notice that after I made the post but this is the one I used on my MK3
Did you buy this with XP Pro installed ? -
yeah but i reinstalled xp pro on it myself or do i need xp tablet?
-
I bought my CF 29 mk 2 without a hdd and installed XP pro sp3 myself on a blank drive. I followed up by installing the downloaded drivers and all works well.
I think your touchscreen is DOA. I don't know what goes bad in them. -

This model number is known to have non-working touchscreen panels
I have not purchased that particular model , but in the past I have bought cf-29's that the seller stated were non-touchscreen , and found them to be touchscreens
Non working though, curser go's to the bottom right when any spot on the panel is pushed

I will reinstall the OS than follow the instructions and see how it goes

no go still dead, is there a chance they didnt plug a cable in to the mainboard?
I guess 50/50 chance. -
Probably not as It would not show up in the bios if that was the case
Alex -
why are so many not working? was it something sbc did or when they refurbished them? as my screen looks imaculate
-
The screen has a new scratch sheet on it
For $25 for the scratch sheet and $10 worth of spray paint you can make the top cover look new
These were lease returns and most have had a lot of use

Boo Boo... This has been discussed in many of the threads... Panasonic had some issues on some CF-29, early CF-30, CF-18 and early CF-19 models. The ex-SBC units are known to be worn units and most have bad touchscreens. You can buy a whole known working unit off of ebay for around $100 or buy the parts from Heartland for around $500...

The company I work for has 6 plants in USA and 2 in Canada. We use the CF-18 MK4 touch with a bar code scanner on our forklifts. These 18 must be running in good order for me to do my job, if not I turn it in for a new one....well its not that easybut if we keep having problems then they upgrade to a new one....downtime cost big companys big bucks so I am told .

Consider:
If touchscreen is showing as an option in the BIOS, then the screen IS indeed a touchscreen, AND is plugged in correctly.
If the touchscreen is unresponsive, it is either a BAD driver, a driver INSTALLED incorrectly, or a BAD screen.
As TB and TC have suggested, I would verify the driver and install first... These were installed by running the .exe file which put the driver in the /util folder, you then had to open the Device Manager and physically point the mouse to that folder to install the touchscreen drivers.
If you have done all of that, and can't even get a response from the screen, then my friend, I am afraid your screen is dead. These were all very used units and it happens. You might find a good deal on fleabay for a replacement touchscreen; find a "for parts" unit that still has a good touchscreen; see if any members here have one for sale or trade; or skip it and go without the touch option.
But please, try the driver install again first. Reading your posts I can't seem to see where you installed it correctly. It is worth a shot... -

I've come to the conclusion that most of the touch screen sbc's that are not functioning, are doing so becuase they sit and bake in the sun all day while docked in their vehicles.
look here for more info on bad touching -
I lucked out on 2 working touchscreens and a seller who was more than willing to take it(29) back when I had driver issues. When you calibrate, how long were you waiting for the top left X to move? When I got it working the 1st time it took a few more times to recalibrate and stay that way.
As they all were saying the SBC units are hardcore abused vs the actual military ones I had which never left the A/C building. When it's not your property you tend to not care as much about it and when you tell people the titanic is unsinkable then.... well you see what happened there.
touchscreen yeah or nay?
