My mouse started jumping around so i remembered it may be a gps problem, went into bios turned off gps and thats fixed.
I have tried the download driver from the net for the gps but still no go,
Everytime i put to on it still makes the mouse run.

    It`s a cf 18 mk 4 ot K series
The GPS is a factory fitted type

How can i get the GPS working again?

You need to run the .exe file called skipenum. Easiest way to find it is to use search. Then double-click the file.
Or look in My Computer for util or util2. Then find gps folder. Open that and 2 files should be there. Double-click skipenum. I believe this makes a change in the registry.
I know this works using factory restore o.s.

    Jeff
    TEST site:forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic - Google Search
replace TEST with skipenum or whatever you want to learn about.

I can't remember who but Alex was helping someone with the same problem, they ran the GPS patch and no luck but he got them to do something else, maybe remove the battery for a few minutes  . I could be thinking of something else too.

I am getting closer to stopping the wild mouse!
I can get it to behave and all runs fine (no pun)!
But, as soon as i reboot, i`ts back again.
I did notice that i left it on all one day, with the charger plugged in, it switched it`s self off and even the bios bettery was flat and i had to reset time ect.

If the bios battery is flat you better start with that. (hmmmmm unintentional poem) Replace it or plug it in. Then factory restore, then allow upgrade to SP2 and then /Util2/gps/skipenum (C:/util2/gps/skipenum.reg)

Remove bottom cover. Look for yellow battery near power board. If it's underneath you don't need to remove it. There is room to stick another one on just north of the passthrough antenna/s. Look for a clear spot. Late mark cf-18 have the battery on top(actually the bottom as you are upside down) of the board...or at least mine did.

    Good luck.

BEFORE you run skipenum you must make sure that the GPS is OFF in the BIOS... Then boot up, run skipenum, then reboot... The GPS should always be turned off in the BIOS before running that file.

If that doesn't work... Try going into device manager and turning of serialballpoint (If I recall correctly) and rebooting....

    Keep us posted.

Have you checked the registry to see if the skipenum file actually made the entry?

The entry is not the same for every Toughbook. For the CF-18 Mk4:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ACPI\PNP0501\1\Device Parameters]
    "SkipEnumerations"=dword:fffffffe

    From jp site:
    http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/dl/dow...ation_Instructions_19K_L_Win7_H-2009-0318.pdf

http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/dl/dow...istryPatch_v2.00l11_19K_19L_W732_ss6983.exe## this is an executable file so be careful.

There is some great information scattered around and if you have read as much as I have you will see some duplicates.
For the jumpy mouse the registry patch is necessary to keep the GPS from being seen as a mouse.
I thought Panasonic would have fixed this issue long ago but I see the patch for CF-30, 19K and etc.

I did not read the pdf found here yet. (see above).
From Toughbook ---disable the GPS in bios first.
    Run the .exe.
    RE-enable GPS.

Here's a cut and paste from the jp site PDF.
    1. GPS is set to Disabled with BIOS
    Setup.
    2. OS is started. and GPSVista.reg
    V2.00L11
    is executed.
    M00
    3. OS is ended once. GPS is set to
    Auto with BIOS Setup.
    4. OS is started.

This is one of those duplicates...it matches I believe the work "james" did by hand.

It also duplicates "I believe" /Util2/GPS/skipenum which I have used for CF-29 and CF-18. The other file that lives with skipenum undoes skipenum according to TBtech.

AHHH! Sorted at last! Skipenum file was the answer--i was activating with gps on in bios ,done as was told here and it works great!
    You guys are the best!
Getting used to how cool this toughbook is now,i feel i can do anything with it.
Usually, with ordanary lap tops, i find you have to have clean fingers, cover from rain, they have bendy/snap off type lids, and young kids would kill one in seconds!
Now i use my toughbook for open cockpit flying,it sits on a lap mounted map board which we use on trips anyway.
The GPS is quick the screen is daylight readable, and if it rains ,that`s ok!
Also the software we use for flight planning is windows based so it`s cool.
Only one thing, the GPS seems to have a bad memory, it took a while to initialize it and it seems to take a while again to remember where it is, it`s fine when going again though!
    thanks again

Yes, I thought booting, fixing, enabling was accomplished with a "boot in the *@s.... LoL.... I had this same problem with my Cf-18, it was confusing due to the "on and off" for the enum part..... Finally did figure it out and got MS S&T up and running as well as company GPS Mapper SW!!!! So difficult.......

Did you replace the bios battery mentioned above? I don't know if that would help the GPS "remember" or not.

Jeff....good show on getting things working.

Thats the problem on OEM gps on CF-18, CF-29, and also on CF-19, CF-30. But for cf-19 and CF-30. There is a provision for adding a cmos battery on gps module but it is up to the owner if He/She aware of that.

Here is the fact on CF-18, cf-29 gps module. Everytime you pull it out the main battery or it run out of juice. The memory on the gps module will be lost and at the time you use it. It will start on cold start thet sometimes take forever to get a signal of locked the signal.
Anyway you can ad the cmoc battery but require a bit knowledge shematic and soldering + two diode only.

It is also the main reason thats we pull it out and repalce by SirfIII module with buitin cmos battery.

As the Capt'n said If I am not mistaken with those OEM gps. Its better than nothing or better to nothing.

PS, Is anybody here has contact with Alex(Tomcat). He doesn't reply to my e-mail yet.

Don`t know if i`m up to this micro soldering work!
If i make sure the main battery does not run out of power--should it be ok?
Also, i have a choice in BIOS of GPS--disable/auto/enable,
I use auto as i found it, am i better off using ( enable) full time?
I only ever use the toughbook just for nav work only and it`s powered off a aircraft power supply so it wont run out of juice.

I enjoyed fiddling and fixing my toughbook, but this is the sad bit----i just won another cf 18 semi runner off ebay £120! i need help!

You will be fine as long as the unit is hook up permanently on its power source and the battery is in. The Gps module used the VA5 line on which it is still on even if the PC is off and continue supplying power to memory of the module.
Btw, Sorry! about the few letters from my previous post coz I used a rubber keyboard from my CF-M34. Thats why it messed up, Lol.

    No more mister nice guy.

Did you or did you not replace your cmos battery in the original CF-18? It will not be stable until you do.

I need to use 3g network (mobile net)
Is there a card that will fit in the pc card slot that will enable me to use a sim card and go online?
    I seen this on ebay--

Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 EDGE Unit Siemens MC75 GPRS | eBay
Does this do what i need and has it to be installed inside or slotted in the pc card slot?

Teo, Check your PM, I've sent you Alex's super triple secret bat phone number. It might not help, he tends to go boating out of the range of all modern communications this time of year.
