I got a oem gps unit out of a cf-28 and installed it into my cf-28. I had the jumpy mouse problem which I was able to take care of. But my problem is my lack of knowledge on how to get it set up. I've tried a bunch of different things that I've found on the forum but still can't get the gps to go. ( I know the unit was working well when I pulled it from the cf-28)

Any help would be great even point me to a guide or forum posts. I just a bit frustrated not being able to find a guide on how to get it work.

Hi! I have one question before I go on. Did you really find the thread on the oem gps of cf-28. I guessed not coz if you find it & found out it is a thrash/ a piece of junk you will not dare to install it unless you upgraded the module.... Before you've got mad  at me I gonna say. I'm just kidding, :D Lol

To be serious. This is my serious answer to your question. Download any gps viewer like winfast navigator or gps view or etc. Then go to device manager, look for ports and then click to expand. If the gps on the bios is set to enable or auto it will create a new port. Usually come up with COM 3 or COM 4. Open the gps viewer ie winfast nav..tor and then click connect if it is not on the right setting it will pop a new window set the right com port 3 or 4 and then set the baudrate to 4800. then hit ok. If it is still doesn't work go to device manager again then right click the port (3 or 4 ) then hit properties under properties go to resources, uncheck the auto setting and then hit the blue arrow bar to expand. Point to 0000001 something like that and then ok. set.

open again the gps viewer and see if data is streaming.

Not to down you out.... But I have had many, many stock CF-28 OEM GPS installs that would never pick up satellites... Or, at best, I would need to be out in the middle of a field. That was one of the main reasons we started modding it. Teo came up with the awesome idea of using the CF-18/19 GPS bumpout screwed to the side of the CF-28 to house a new active patch antenna. This along wth the EM-408 will give you excellent performance. Not quite as good as the Sarantel mounted to the LCD... But Teo's mod is MUCH more tough and, if installed correctly, looks completely stock. I've used that mod on two CF-28s and both turned out very well and the customers were very pleased with the performance.

Something to think about! Rep to Teo (after-the-fact for that one!)

it did pick up bird in the other cf-28 so I thought it would in mine. I thought that the seraill ball mouse was gone. But it came back, In device manager under mice I uninstalled it.

Then gps software would lock onto com 4 doing a auto scan, then she would hang on the receiving a signal.

I'm using xp pro sp3 and followed the instructions to add a line to the start up properties.

I understand that it may be quite scatchie but I just like to try.

    Thanks for the help.

I got it to work in my home can't figure out how many birds it is seeing but it did lock in on my home.

    Worked perfectly after that.

Going to give it a go in my truck next and see if she can kept locked on.

I'm using goops with google earth.

Just to answer I found a lot of references to the gps, but nothing seemed to be complete. The reason I moved the gps to the other laptop.
Lazyness I didn't want to move all the missing items to the one with the gps, wireless, lan modem, back lit keyboard and so on.

Glad to help. Your welcome! It happened that on initial port setting there is a conflict of IRQ. Sometimes it is best to assign IRQ & port manually. Good Luck and Enjoy.

Tb(Rick) Thanks man! talk to you later.
