I seem to have been volunteered to help a (blind) friend with a dead toughbook cf-w4 get some files off her disk. The disk is probably good as the machine seemed to have a power supply problem. Having done this for a number of Dell and HP laptops as well as Macs (I work in IT but mostly with mainframes), I figured this would be easy. Silly me. So, could someone please point me at the disassembly instructions for the CF-W4? I checked the sticky posts on this forum and I didn't see the CF W4 service manual and the user manual that I found doesn't seem to have the disassembly instructions. We'd really appreciate it. Even though the machine is dead, I really don't want to destroy it. Also, I'm hoping I can just stick the disk in a standard USB-to-ATA adapter. If the disk will run off of 5v, I would think this should work. Can anyone confirm this?

I'll check back here or I can be reached at rick (dot) kovalcik (at) gmail (dot) com.

    Thanks again.

For the record that helped get me started and I was eventually able to get the disk out and files off it using a standard PATA to USB converter. Unfortunately, that manual is for the CF-W4-H model and we had a CF-WF-G (or backwards) which are different (There is no disk door on the -G and I had to take the entire bottom off the case.)

That's why it is always best to post the full model number. G is a MK1 and the H is MK2.

I just sent you one for the CF-W4 G
