I recently bought a used police Toughbook CF-54 with fairly basic specs, and I'm hoping to upgrade it a ton. It came with a bad screen, but shockingly, my screen from my 2013 alienware 14 laptop is working like a champ in the toughbook (and it upgraded the toughbook to a 1080p matte screen) so that all works. I've done a little bit of research, and I have the SIM slot and antennae for WWAN (NO GPS), and thats really the only extra it seems to be prepped for.
What I want to add is WWAN, Fingerprint reader, and second battery.
So my questions go like this: can i drop a same-model WWAN card in this laptop and a SIM card and have it just work after finding the correct code to put in the BIOS? And what carriers work with the toughbook?
Does the same go for installing a fingerprint reader?
How can i verify that my optical drive slot is set up for a battery vs data? (it has the light on the front by the handle, but I have no idea if that really means anything)

I'm sure I will end up asking more questions moving forward, but this is where I'm starting.
    thanks, everyone!

If it is like other Toughbooks a WWAN card from any Toughbook should work.

As Shawn said... Just drop a WWAN card from another Toughbook in there and then go into the BIOS to make needed changes. I hate fingerprint readers as I always seem to have a new scratch, scrape or dirty fingers when I want to get in... I'd forget the fingerprint reader...

My fingers have been through the mill as a former GM Tech so I agree, no fingerprint reader.

I've had them in my 30, 51, 52 and they are a pain in the butt. Your hands have gotta be clean or it just won't work.

Not everything can be easily swapped though, i tried upgrading the basic screen to full HD and it would not boot in windows unless using no drivers for video.

Wow man that's awsome that you were able to upgrade the screen. I recently got a cf-53 that id like to replace the screen because its also bad , do you know the model number of the screen i would be interested in looking into it to replace/upgrade mine. also any issues with the drivers after you replaced the screen?
