Just a random query WRT the port covers on the CF-29...
The power and USB covers are both a tight fit which mate to a rubber seal - pretty good at repelling water, but the LAN/Modem cover doesnt have the rubber grommets and just a fairly weak plastic snap shut... how good is that cover at keeping the water out? it looks like the CF-29's achillies heel!

I don't think it is actually open to the inside. Just six contacts? 2 for modem , 4 for lan. and the actual inside of that part is probably covered with plenty of silicone type stuff if the cf-28 is any indication

Mine seems to fit pretty tight.

the jacks on the rj45 and rj11 are installed into that same rubber grommet you see in the usb/dc ports, but on the inside of the cf-29 there is a zip tie keeping it as tight as possible so it holds its water RESISTANT state. There is a misconception about the 29 from everyone I talk to, alot of them think its water proof but its only water resistant.

i know the machine is water resistant, not waterproof, its just all the other ports have a rubber/foam seal on the exterior flap except for the LAN/Modem jacks which is just hard plastic to hard plastic.
I was wondering if the ports themselves were, as Eno suggested open on the outside, but sealed from the inside, the cover mostly acting as a barrier to debris. -
Here is your answer, look at the rubber seal at the back of the plug

Yes, they are open ports on the CF-28 as well but the back of the jacks are sealed to the housing with silicone sealant, so even if water does ingress at the ports all you need do is blow the water out. The seal around the panel they're in is foam rubber, so prolly NOT nearly as watertight as that seal around the ports themselves.

I'm starting to worry about my USB port cover on my CF-30... it's VERY VERY VERY loose and easy to open (AFAIK it didn't use to be that way)... I'm thinking that the next Heartland order will include a new one...
