I am looking for one of these rugged pc's

I am more so interested in the 14" screen as it has hires.

    Core 2 duo is fine.

Ive considered the t8,f8, and y7 among these which is the best. CD-ROM is not a must but would be nice. would like minimal weight and a thinner frame.

If you want the high resolution, Y7 is your best bet since it's 14" SXGA+ (1400x1050).

I've also owned a couple of W7/W8 units which were 12" XGA (1024x768) with an integrated media drive, and extremely light for their capabilities.

If you don't need a media drive, R-series (which is really "Let's Note" and not a conventional ToughBook since it's a Japan-only model) starting at R6 or above is an excellent pick, presuming that:

    a) You are able to locate one in the first place

    b) You can deal with combo Japanese/US keyboard.

    R series is under 2lb, and offers a 10.4" XGA (1024x768) LCD.

    Happy hunting.

Well I am not sure how much you want to spend but the CF-53 has my vote. It has a 14'' HD screen, 16GB max memory and i3 or i5 cpu...I love mine :D

I have used a Y7 for several years, carried it all over the world - but not in any places where I would need a truly rugged system, and been completely happy with it. It is getting to be a pretty old model, though.

    Good luck,
    Dave

What is the best toughbook? Always the one that you don't have!

This formula works for everything else too :)
