    system administration logfile viewer xorg.0.log.
Scroll to the bottom and then up a few lines. Look for touchpad.

The earlier Marks use a version of PS2.

    Try this:
    ........or Synaptics.......or PS2

    Caps are critical. :)

    O.K. go into applications terminal.

    type
I think of this as grep = get report. dmesg is the display message tool for the kernel buffer.

The kernel is the operating system specs that are written each time you turn on the machine. Linux looks for hardware, then the appropriate drivers (found in the operating system) They are mostly already on your machine. You do not need to rattle all over the universe looking for drivers as in some other operating systems.

What is going on? Touchpad not working or?

The section you sent does not include the touchpad. Remember caps and try the above.

touch pad works. just the scroll on the right and bottom doesnt.

I typed that into the terminal but it just went down a line and nothing happened. I tried it like this
    dmesg | grep TouchPad
    and like this
    dmesg|grep TouchPad

not sure if it had spaces between. neither bought anything else up. I havent checked bios but i would assume it on otherwise it wouldnt work would it?

Take a look at synaptics under Ubuntu Software Center. My CF-51 scrolls and has xserver-xorg-input-synaptics installed.
Synaptics won't show up until you type the last s to differentiate from synaptic (package manager).
Your CF-19 is using the generic mouse bit for your touchpad.
This is how my 51 looks. Not saying it is right but it does work.
    type in terminal
I'd like to see the result.

OK excellent ...that's identical to my CF-30. If I can get it working I'll give you a yell.

"the kernel decides you have a generic mouse" Quote from some of my reading. I'm trying to figure out why CF-51 recognizes SynPS/2 and CF-30 does not.

Also I'm trying to fix my weed-eater.....know anything about that? :)

    any ideas?

i dont really know where to start with linux. Im having trouble finding answers online. Nothing seems straightforward. Im willing to learn but im not going to buy an ebay special 'how to use linux'.
If anyone knows a good source for learning the way of linux would be appreciated. i dont mind buying a proper book or something.

If this is still about the touchpad I know how you feel.

From my research....40 hours now I have found that the CF-29 and CF-51 both have Synaptics touchpad firmware version 8.96. The 51 runs it fine with no interference (I mean help from me). Ubuntu 10.10, 10.04. 11.04. The CF-29 does not "see" the touchpad as a Synaptics or SynPS/2 device so it falls back on the generic tp which has no vertical/horizontal scroll.

I agree about the Linux forums for the most part. Someone will ask a question and forty people will chime in with "oh, mine does that too." But no answers. :(

May I recommend a cheat sheet for commands. There are several.

My wife always buys the ________ For Dummies Book.

I run till I hit a wall...research the wall...get sidetracked by something else and eventually "get it".

If it's any help I started messing with Linux about 16 months ago.

    Hang in there.

    Jeff
