I may have found some of the lack of speed issues with my CF30.
The wifi connection speed is 54.0 Mdps with my TB, other connection on another computer I am working with run 100 Mdps.
Correct me I am wrong on my thinking here. The wifi card in my TB is a Intel wireless wifi Link 4965a/g, with a top speed of 54 Mbps.
This upgrade to a 4965a/b/g/n is rated up to 300 Mbps.

It looks to be a rather straightforward upgrade to gain internet speed?
The cost is reasonable.
Will it take more power/overheat?
Can anyone see a problem with this upgrade?
-
Our local internet provider offers 3 speeds. (if I remember correctly)
1) the cheapest cost is a 54 Mbps.
2) middle change cost is 100Mbps.*
3) high end gamer speeds 300 Mbps.
* I believe I have a 100Mbps service and the other computer in our home all seem to run fine at 100Mbps.
It appears this wifi card I am using is old and not capable of the higher speeds. -
Appears this has been researched and program steps to correct it. But first I need the 'N" Wifi card.

Take a look at posts re: third antenna on "n" cards. Ummm was it Shawn who spoke of this? And some others. I'll edit in a sec.

Yes Shawn; I have been doing my homework/reading and your name keeps coming up.
The slow response with my cf-30 is in part this old 54.0 Mdps Card. Do you know the difference between the 5300 and the 6300? Do you feel the 6300 is better than the Intel Wireless Wifi link 4965AGN?
From what I read about my TB I have 3 antennas in the top of the screen. -
You have 2 wlan or wifi antennas. The 3rd is the wrong frequency. You can pick up a cheap flag antenna on fleabay and stick it under the rubber corner in the lid.
Yes the 6300 is better. The intel web site can give a much better comparison than I can.
Here's What Intel has to say about it:
The Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 is the next generation 3x3 (450 Mbps) Wi-Fi Adapter from Intel. Key differences between the Wi-Fi Link 5300 and the Centrino® 6300 are:
- Support for the latest Intel® vPro™ Technology which adds the following features/capabilities:
o HW-based keyboard, video, mouse remote control enabling an IT administrator to lower his/her support costs by being able to see the various states of the Laptop such as Startup/Shutdown, Blue Screen or OS freeze, Disk Failure, or Network Software issues to name a few
o Support for Intel® Anti-Theft Technology which can disable a PC if it is lost or stolen helping to ensure data confidentiality.
- Support for an enhanced receiver algorithm that can provide in some instances up to a 40% performance improvement over the previous receiver algorithm we had used in the 5300. -
Thanks a ton Shawn, Looks like a no brainer to solve most of my speed issues.

Sounds great. Might put it in my 19 or 53..

Question Shawn, Is that bad boy 400mw all the time or can you tone it down if needed?
-
-
For my application I don't see needing 400mw to go across the house a room or two away or in my workshop to my router. I for see this aplication about 60% of the time and operation on internal battery power.
But the other 40% of the time I for see my TB docked out around the farm or on the road. Docked and all 400mw would be very useful. Without spending to much cash thinking of doing a router mod as a router repeater and external antenna on top the house. -

I would be very surprised if you can turn it down. On other high powered cards like the Engenius EMP-8602+S High-Powered Wireless 600mW card you could not turn them down.

Not sure about the atheros based driver.....cf30 is not handy at the moment.
I will do some internet research...UNCNDL1 likes this. -
Use the Lenovo client utility or let Windows manage the connections.
Also get the latest Ubiquiti driver here.

Hay I am the Tim the Tool man mind set. More power more power. But I was just thinking of the battery draw. But of course there is a switch that would halt the card from any use when not needed.
More power! My wife asked me why I needed a lawn more with 35hp. I said more power more power... -
The OP said his CF-30 came with a non-capable 4965. He might want to read this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=702867 on what I went through with my CF-19 to get faster wireless. Some cards wouldn't even let it power on. Don't know if the CF-30 will be the same. I ended up with a 4965 with n enabled, and it works fine. Be sure to read the last few posts to get the right card.
