To get all the features of the card, you need to run the Engenius software (such as changing the card output). I use the Windows standard program and it works fine.
-
I like to run the Engenous app as it allows you to throttle the card. In my mind... the less Windoze has to do with itself the better!

ok i would love to run the enginues app were can i lovate it ive looked but no luck

EMP V1.4 Driver 5534K
Release Date: 3/1/2007 -
well that dosent seem to work on win7
-
Unless you feel the need to constantly manipulate the wifi card and its output, save yourself some headaches and use the Windows program and be done with it, I don't believe the Engenius software is certified for use with W7.

Compatible. Imagine that... -

I'm responding here so that others may benefit from the discussion and may be able to resolve their own issues in the future.
Research on the manufacturer's website here:
Drivers - EnGenius Datacom Support
shows they do not have a driver for Vista/Win7 for your antique WiFi card. (The EMP-8602 is 4 years old now)
You CAN try the driver for the next newest card that DOES support Vista; that would be the EMP-9701 also available from the above page.
It will probably NOT run directly under Win7, so again Compatibility mode will be needed.
BE SURE TO SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE TRYING ANY UNAPPROVED DRIVERS ON YOUR MACHINE!!!
If that doesn't work, and you can't get the XP Drivers to run in compatibility mode, then I'm afraid you'll have to suck it up and either use the Windoze WiFi client or buy a newer Atheros-Based card that DOES Support Win7.

Just one more reason to stick with XP Pro!!! Why fix something that is not broken!!!!!

Why move on to Win7?
Because XP is now officially LEGACY software; the gulf between the families grows larger every day as software developers write apps and hardware developers make interesting new hardware that is only supported by the new extensions in Win7.
What this means is that as long as you can do everything you want to do with XP hardware and XP software you are fine; once you see all the new things you can do with the new hardware, you WILL eventually want them; and for that, you need to move up to Win7.
We are right now at the point with Win7 as we were about a year after XP's release; most of the big bugs were worked out, and now we're starting to see things we can do with Win7 we can't do with XP.
What?
Proper 64-bit multiprocessor support, ability to use more than 3GB RAM, a whole new level of multi-application integration, whole "smart house" management, and HD Video/Entertainment to name a few.
With Win'98 to XP it was similar; we wanted live action video and high-quality audio; XP gave us that. We wanted a filesystem that didn't blow up every time the computer didn't finish a boot or finish a shut-down, XP with NTFS gave us that for a general use OS. We wanted to be able to plug in a printer or a camera and have it WORK, XP gave us that.
Over the years XP has evolved into the OS none of us want to live without; if LINUX STILL fails to produce a variant that ordinary users can keep running (Ubuntu is a START, but it has a long way to go) Win7 will follow suit.
