I have a cf-29 with xp pro sp3 installed. Ever since I did a refresh re-install, Been having problems connecting to some wifi access points but in particular, the one I use at the house I am renting with. The physical lan cable works fine.
I have done a ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew
Competed a ipcofig /flushdns and a reboot.
Tried manual ip.gw.dns address assignment and the ping replies com back as cannot connect.
I know xp is no longer supported but will be holding onto xp for a bit longer before I upgrade.
The CF-29 model I am working on is a Cf-29NTQGZBM

What's the model of the wifi card?

Change router to encryption type: WEP or WEP Open and Wireless B only. Just temporarily till you can get the issue sussed out.

Did you check for WLAN updates....as I notice this is a fresh install...it probably has the older version.
I would google panasonic toughbook drivers cf-29 jp...in fact I did...Wireless LAN Driver [This file can be installed only to WLAN model] Update
CF-29N/P(mk5) Windows XP Pro SP2 CF-29[N/P]xxxxBxEnglish(North America)Mar 03, 2008No. 011717
Let Windows manage it after an Intel upgrade.
This is important: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...20307/eng/ICS_Dx32.exe&Lang=eng&Dwnldid=20307
That's ICS Dx32 for XP and ICS Dv 32 for Vista (maybe W7) -
I've been fixing XP's for a living for 10+ years and just when i thought i knew it all, i ran into this issue that had me stumped for the last 3 hours.
XP work laptop, connects to ethernet just fine. Connects to my mobile phone's tethered wifi just fine.
Connects to home wifi router just fine. Gets an IP just fine.
Cannot ping gateway at 192.168.0.1 and ofcourse cannot ping google at 8.8.8.8
I used your hint to change wifi mode on router from 802.11 B/G/N to 802.11 B/G. That did it for me
wifi connects but cannot ping gateway ip address assigned to it on xp
