I have a W8 which I would like to put a Gobi 2000 card in, and use it in the USA and Asia

    I found on Ebay a Brand New HP UN2420 Gobi2000 WWAN 3G Card for $18 , item # 170837059495

will it work or do I need to get one out of a Panasonic ?

I like the idea of buying a NEW one , but maybe it does not matter .

Will any GSM data sim card work in it , like in an unlocked cell phone ?

    Thanks for your advise

I did my best to make one HP UN2420 to work on CF-52 mk1 in Windows 7 and I had no luck at all. The gobi loader application cannot communicate with the device.

    UN2420 will not work.
Install GSM (HSDPA) modem like Novatel U870D. They are cheap, have very simple installation and work very well. Any GSM sim will work.

The antennas should be there, I know they are there on my W5.

There is no GPS in EU870D. Or I don't know how to turn it on :))
If you need GPS - Sierra Aircard 8790 is a better choice. But for a stable GPS signal it needs A-GPS (GSM coverage).
Muuuuuch better is WWAN for data only and standalone GPS (bluetooth, for example) for GPS.

Ok so after running a few Google searches I ended up on the Dell site where a Dell owner was asking the same thing as you . He never got any help but he did come back and say that it did have GPS but he had to do a registry hack to get it working. He never said how or what he did to get it working

    Hi

    Thanks for your help ......

If I am going to put a Gobi card in and I can get GPS why not , I do not need it to be fast GPS , but there are times where it would be good to have.

So I guess I am still looking for the right Gobi card :(
