Picked up a newish cf-29 about three weeks ago. 180 gig hd 1.5 gig ram. Unfortunaly, the cdrom does not work contrary to what the owner said.

Anyway, Will the mobile docking station for the cf-27 work with the cf-29? If so, I will buy it.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Secondly, how tough is this station? is it plastic or metal? trying to prevent theft of the laptop if I am in a building for a short period of time.

yes, it should work. if i'm not mistaken, you can drop a 27,28,29,and maybe more.
it's metal, and heavy (3lbs or so).
the only concern is if it has a single or dual pass though antenna, and if your 29 has a single or dual pass through (they should match). If they are different, you can make it work if you remove the pass throughs. Don't quote me on that, someone will chime in and correct me if i'm wrong, i'm sure.

As a rule of thumb, for docking stations, you can use the model of laptop listed or higher, but not lower. so for instance, you can use a 29/30/31 on the CF-WEB27 dock, but you cannot use a 29 on a CF-WEB30 dock.

and all PANASONIC, docks have a metal base frame,

thats just rob. Probally, on the unit he bought, the dock port was bad, VERY common with this style of connectors on the 27 through the 31 so far

Dude! I bought one of these docks (exact same model) back when I had a CF-29 back in 2006 and it did NOT work with my CF-29ET model (MK2). I had to return it!

    STAY AWAY!

P.S, the dock station is pure metal, and weighs a TON. Durable as HELL!

I carry mine with me on work trips. In my backpack with my 29, my ghetto pipe bomb lookin mount, a ton of cables, external hdd, all my cords and chargers for my cell/BT, a 110 Panny charger, a Lind, and a few other things.

I've been lying this whole time; apparently my first and last name is "Randomly Selected"

    Yes, heavy as hell.

Rob, these docks work with anything cf-27+, it is possible the one you had, had a bad IF PCB (dock connector on the port rep) or a bad dock port on the unit. The fuses are a very common issue on the docks as well.

I repair these daily for local companies around here and I have used anything from the 27, to a 31 to test them, they all work fine.

    Correct.

One of Panasonic Toughbook Solutions advertised selling points is that you can drop any fully-rugged (CF-27, -28, -29, -30, -31) Toughbook onto your existing Panasonic vehicle dock and it will work.

The one thing to watch for, though, is if the Toughbook has hi-gain antenna pass-through connector(s) [HGAPTC(s)], does the dock have matching ports?

It has been my experience that, even if you have HGAPTC in the unit that do not match the dock (2 on unit/1 on dock, or 1 on unit/2 on dock) the unit will still work, as the connector(s) will align between the opposite one(s) and not cause any problems (still best to match if possible).

Obviously, if either part has no connectors and the other does, machts nichts.
