It will work for sure, however the cf-72’s mini-pci slot is located very close to the back of the laptop where the suggested antenna is fitted.
Your cf-28 antenna is best fitted on the opposite side of the mini-pci slot near the front
And would benefit from a slightly longer antenna wire
The seller probably makes them up, ask for a longer wire

BEWARE!! of that seller, he is a scammer I sold him a toughbook in great condition and he filed a claim against me and said the screen wasn't as described etc which was totally bogus. Long story short he blackmailed me saying he'd leave negative feedback unless I gave him money back so I ended up getting burned and he got my 28 for dirt cheap. zig77 is a total scammer I wouldn't be surprised if he scams his sales too, I would reccomend buying from someone else, however that part will work on the 28 like you asked.

It depends on the card you purchase. First, make sure the card you want will fit in the slot, then make sure it has external antenna connectors, then you will need to know what kind. I have seen MMX, U.fl, and RMA (I believe). So, your pigtail will need to be at least 12", SMA Bulkhead to MMX/U.fl/RMA. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but that is what I remember.

Haha.. I've dealt with him before :) I think he got all his 3Com cards from me! All I can say about him is he drives a REAL hard bargain as a buyer.. Wants to get the BEST price he possible can for parts.. Not that I fault him for that necessarily, but I can't just give the stuff away either!

I wouldn't say he drives a hard bargain, hes a straight up scammer. I sold him a practically mint 28 which wasn't even a touch screen and its not like those usually show much wear anyway and this one was almost new. He filed a claim for it being significantly different than described and said the case was cracked, screen worn and scratched etc. He wanted a full refund but refused to send the computer back saying it was for another customer he was reselling to. I ended up fighting it but to avoid getting negatvie feedback like he threatened me with and paypal threatened to suspend my account. I ended up refunding like $80 and he got a mint MK3 28 for $60. I hope he burns in hell.

We should start a thread of scammers and people who are banned to avoid this happening to the best of us in the community. What do you think?

    Alex,
You're somewhere around Salmon Inlet, NW of Vancouver, BC, or you were when you last got a fix. Your gps can see 9 satellites but hasn't got a lock on any of them. And I still don't like WinFast Navigator.

When Rick or Teo use winfast in their listings we have confidence that the gps works properly because its getting good strong sats.

That’s a screen capture for ebay listing 260337029544

That guy needs to spend more time getting his equipment working properly , and less time driving a hard bargain and arguing with sellers

Well... It looks like the guy is buying things from Heartland for a few cents and then charging a tremendous markup PLUS shipping! OUCH!

I really don't want to start a post about who has ripped off who. Friendly advice like what has gone on here is fine... But I really don't want to get into a finger pointing session and then have the powers that be yank it after it gets started. I knod of wish we could do that but I see only bad things if we do.

Ros... Back to YOUR question... NO... It won't work correctly.

    What you need is....

1 - External SMA antenna of your choice
1- Wifi card of your choice. I like the 600mW Engenous cards.. They work very well for me... But they are $55
    1 - 12" SMA Bulkhead to U.fl connector
1- (optional) Internal antenna. Personally I buy the cheap "Paddle" type antenna meant for plastic laptops. They have a thin metal that can be shaped to fit a right angle. I cut the end off to the size I need and then resolder the lead on the antenna so that I don't have 20" of extra lead coiled in the bottom of the laptop. Then I wedge it between the left side cover where you are going to put your SMA connector. If you are careful and mount the SMA bulkhead connector back far enough you can also fit the antenna in there. The cool thing is that is you do it correctly.... You can fit the antenna on the OUTSIDE of the laptop but under the plastic cover... So the antenna doesn't need to get a signal come through the metal frame! I rarely need the external connector on mine... But I install it for people who need extra signal strength or want to use the mag-mount antennas I include with my laptops (CF-28s)

    Hope this helps!

Ok well maybe a scammer, but he's the person I've bought a complete brand new wi-fi kit, ethernet/modem combo card and various brand new port covers etc. from to sort out the cosmetic and lack of wi-fi issues with my cf28. I had a long string of emails back and forth before decided to commit to buying the parts, but everything is new and exactly as described.

Maybe when buying the person behaves differently but as a seller I can't complain.

He he I've been on both sides of the feedback coin before with Ebay - on the very rare occasion that as a seller I stuffed something up bad I tried my darndest to sort it out right with the buyer but some buyers can be idiots just like sellers can be. And as a seller trying to the do the right thing it really does hurt (I don't mean in feedback score) to know you've done all you can do and then still get roasted..

But some people really do try to manipulate ebay to suit themselves. I've had a huge go at Ebay itself in recent years for stuff they're tried to do (the biggest one was Ebay Australia trying to ban bank deposit payments and force everyone to use PayPal), but some people should really not be selling online as they are crooks who use the trust in Ebay to further their own nest at the buyers expense.

    Ummm Grav -

This is a replacement (or more likely product overrun) antenna for a WiFi router or AP. It DOES NOT have any means of mounting as we would use (unless you want to commit some ziptie abuse & defeat the watertight design of your TB); it is intended to snap into a channel molded into the case of the WiFi product. Of course, for a quickie test unit, it would surely be convenient...

Well, This seller sold us a 28 with a "perfect Screen" by is own addmision "not even a touchscreen" yet it came all scratched up. Now I don't know about you guys but to us a perfect screen means one without scratchs or marks. Yes we asked for a partial refund of only 50.00, much less than a "perfect Screen" is worth. We ask for a refund when it is less than the shipping and insurance the seller would have to pay to have it boxed back up and driven an hour trip to the post office and shipped back with insurance. Our shipping box alone costs us 10.00. We produce a high quality refurbished unit. Most of the chassie parts are beed blasted and repainted. All the other parts are cleaned inspected, tested and reinstalled. Obsolete parts like GPS, cell cards, wifi are disgarded and will soon be on ebay. Perfect Screen to us meens, well a perfect screen, No marks of any kind, and are very hard to find. As far as Integrity goes we have been in the same place for 27 years, We are a for profit company that services many local buisness, does in home service, and refurbishes computers. Myself my name is Zig and I am a retired fire captain/fire inspector for 28 years and I commanded 11 of those big red trucks for over 20.

    Thank You all

Zig.., obviously the 3com combo or any other combo card idea for CF-28, 27 and m34(400Mhz below) and also the antena mount that you copied came from this forum And we are happy that you are one of those who used it for your project. You must be greatful to all of us here. I say just keep in touch. If you want to learn more about the panasonic toughbook. This group was the first to introduce the modern 20 channel gps engine on toughbook cf-28, CF-29, CF-M34 and CF-18 just name it and soon to be the cf-30 and CF-19 :D . Just watch out. Maybe you can help us to accomplish this project since you are a member now here.

BTW, welcome to the forum and If you have some more question just ask, free of charge for the mean time.

LOL I guess someone let him know I slammed him on here. Anyways truth be told Im sticking to my story, and to each their own if you wanna buy from him, Im just telling you my opnion since it is a country of free speech. In his defense he does have mostly positive feedback on ebay so my experience does not represent his business as a whole.

As to his fire service career now I do feel a little guilty for slamming a bother, but just to defend myself a bit, I too am not new on the job and have 10 years in the game and I run my own station as a LT, so I get to command 4 big red trucks, now I do admit thats not 11, but then again I'm not a probie either. = )
