Well first you must downgrade the BIOS

:) Sorry about that, I was just leaving work and only had time to post that.

Ok first I need to know which BIOS you have??
    BIOS - V1.00L15
    Embedded controler - V1.00L16
    or
    BIOS - V1.00L20
    Embedded controler - V1.00L17
    or
    BIOS - V1.01L20
    Embedded controler - V1.10L11

Click on the link and read the cf-30 bios update manual Index of ./CF-30 Stuff/CF-30 Windows 7 Drivers - Darrin Gartrell/
When you bought this did it have XP or Windows 7 ??

Also you really should look into a recovery/restore disk for this.

Read this post, same problem with a cf-30mk3 http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/596538-toughbook-cf-30k.html
and he fixed it with the restore disk

I'm assuming you have a Mk1. The Mk2 uses similar, different procedure. If you are using a retail or OEM version of XP you must follow these instructions. If you had a recovery disc you wouldn't need to do this. This is because the SATA driver is not included in the retail or OEM version of XP except, possibly XP SP3.

    Download Instructions:
Title: In the case of clean installation of Windows XP For CF-30C/D(mk1)
    Model Number: CF-30C/D(mk1)
    Operating System: Windows XP
    Language: null

That won't work on a CF-30. Only USB floppy support on the CF-30.

CF-51 FDD won't work on a CF-30. I modded it and I tried. No go.

On my CF-74 which also has a SATA HD I used nlite to slipstream the SATA driver into the Windows XP installation CD.

I downloaded the relevant f6fd file from the Panasonic website & used WINRAR to extract the file to a folder on my HD. When I ran Nlite, one of the the wizard pages ask if any drivers needed to be added. I pointed to the INF file in the new folder created which added the driver to the ISO. I then used NERO to burn the ISO to create a new WinXP installation CD - so not floppy diskette required.

One great feature of Nlite is the ability to slipstream any service packs & updates into the installation CD, as well as removing any Windows progs that you don't require so that the don't need to be removed once XP is installed.

Also I have made the XP CD an unattended installation so that I insert the CD, turn on the laptop & leave it to do it's thing while I am enjoying a cup or few of expresso.

Please note that I have no interest in Nlite except that I think it's a great little programme that has saved me a lot of problems.
