Can someone tell me please if a xircom 56 k modem pcmcia card wil work in the 2 type 2 slots in the cf28 toughbook . It states they fit a type 3 slot . I read on another forum that the type 3 slot is equivalent to 2 type 2 slots one on top of the other .but want confirmation before I buy one . The internal 56k modem has been taken out and I need dial up access .
I am not a techo so couldn't fit another internal one

    Thankyou

are you talking about the ones that are double-height and have a modular jack built in? those work fine, just put it in the bottom card slot and windows should recognize it.

But.. doesn't every CF28 have at least an internal modem? I have never seen one without it

If you are in the US and aren't in a hurry, I can mail you a modem card that I pulled out of one of my 28's (Mini-PCI, not PCMCIA), no charge.

But it would be a week before I mail it out.

PM me if you are interested.

    Margaret -

If you can change the battery in your Toughbook, you can install a MODEM card in it, I promise. If you're interested, we'll be glad to walk you through it; even post you some pictures.

Thankyou for the kind offer but I am in Tasmania . I can get one cheap off ebay

The person I got the laptop off took the 56 kout It has wireless installed and while we have wireless internet I don't have a need for the fast life .

Thankyou for the help with installing offer but I wouldn't like to get into the bowels of the machine I have crashed too many pc's with fiddling !and would be likly to wreak havoc .
