hi all
just got in my fleabay mk5 cf29nwqgzbm, "according to the seller" the touch screne worked. The seller (a municipality) ran the panasonic recovery disks thru the machine before shipping. When i got the machine and powerd it on windows started up for the first time. When i went to go use the TS it retreated to the rt side of the screne like my sbc 29 does. The only difference being is that the cursor will allow me to move up and down however it is buried in the rt side of the screne. If i scrool my finger up and down the ts will respond and web pages will move up and down, NO left to right motion. i tryied the panny ts/mouse drivers for XPsp2 with no luck. I tryied to clean the margin of the ts, no luck. I know that the vast majority of these TS are either broken or on their way to failure. I was windering if by using the recovery disks (which i dont have) somehow the driver for the ts got screwed up. I have read here that some TB's have to have the drivers installed in a specific order to get the TS to work. I have looked and looked thru many posts and the cf29 faq before posting but i am just angry and dizzy from messing with this machine. Any pointers or links to anything that may help willbe appreciated. I assure you folks that posting was my last resort and i truely did try to find the info on my own. thanks

One of the connections has failed
This is a hardware issue and not a software issue unfortunately -
Alex
I kind of figured thati was hoping above hope that the seller was correct when they said the TS worked. GRR The weird thing is that my other 29 with the bad screne upon any imput the cursor would bury itself in the left corner, this one will move up and down, however mabee the other one is shorted and this one on the left right portion is just open. I saw some threads for people with cf-18's that had an issue like this which turned out to be driver related unfortunately I think i am trying to fool myself

If you exchange it, well even if it works when you recieve it ,it might stop working any day
This problem started showing up two years ago and now its so common
If its a cf-29 mk2-mk5 and at this time has not had a replaced touch panel you cannot trust the touchscreen to be reliable
Thankfully there are members here that know how to change them out, and we don't need to buy a panasonic branded replacement -
i know it was a crap shoot
Alex when you refer to "changing them out" do you mean replacing the touch sensitive membrane somehow or just getting a TS from a 1.2ghz machine and "swapping bad for good" ?
-
I am not an expert on this
I have in the past replaced the complete lid
The repair or replacement of the panel are best explained by others here
I have sent out a cf-29 and a cf-18 to Teo , and they were returned working just like magic
Teo , Jeff or others here can respond to you -
no problem thanks for the insight! Funny thing when i got the machine they had run the restore disks on it, in desperation last night i reinstalled xp-pro on the machine and now even with the drivers from Panny i cant even get the TS to jump or respond at all

Is there a school of thought as far as the proper order to install the panasonic drivers after a fresh xp install. I assume that windows should be SP2 prior to driver installs. I have read on here that some TB's are picky as to the order in which the drivers are installed? I have looked but can not really find a definitive answer. thanks

you can occasionally find a working TS on fleabay for 50 bucks and swap it out(sdslaptops). I've come across several deals and they are still working. sometimes you can pick up an early model cf-29 and the TS works great and if for cosmetics you just swap your cover or the entire internals you get it where you want. then you have another project to fix up the "parts machine". this is when the fix becomes a "FIX" or rather an addiction. it's part the real meaning behind what TS stands for, not just touchscreen....Driller

lol i COMPLETELY AGREE ON THE FIX BECOMING A FIX!!
Luckily the seller agreed to take this mk5 back and is even going to refund my shipping! The funny thing is that having the erratic cursor when using the TS I figured I would reinstall the os and try fresh. Well now the TS wont respond at all i've reinstalled the drivers and still Nothing. Has anybody run across a TS that would do this? When it came to me the seller had run the factory restore disks thru the machine,
I paid 250 for this mk5 with a rubber backlit KB hdd&caddy battery the machine is in (8.5 05 9 fore sure) awesome shape with 14k hrs on it, the seller wont take money off prefering to get the unit back. I hate to let it go but i think 250 is too much -
$250 for a complete working unit sounds pretty good, even if the touchscreen is not working. Many/most people don't really need a touch screen for their use, although it is a fun feature. $250 for a Mk-5 in very good cosmetic condition sounds like a bargain to me ..... Just sayin ...

thanks for your imput I am not up to speed on the prices of these vf29's at all but when I say pristine i mean it, the unit has 14thou hours on it and i cant find a scratch top bottom or sides. I am looking into repairing the TS now, I also have the option of sending it back to the seller on his dime. They would not discount the price any due to the screne, so I am going to hold on to it for a day or so untill I can figure out what to do. I have a 1.4 SBC cf29 that I take to work daily, busted TS as well so I really dont need 2. -
Keep it
Fix the touchscreen
Most models even if you recieve them with a working touchsceen won't last and you will need to deal with the touchscreen later
yet another cf29 touchscrene issue
