My Happy Thanksgiving Thread!
I had just about finished a lengthy Thanksgiving thread about what you all mean to me. I had spent the better part of two hours… Off and on typing it all out and I accidentally deleted it by accidentally highlighting it all…. Then a single keystroke wiped it all out… (Yes I am STILL learning!) I‘ll try to do the simple version here in the 30 minutes or so that I have left.
I am leaving for vacation tomorrow morning for a week of Thanksgiving to visit extended family and don’t know how or if I will have a signal in Arizona… The neighbors have instructions to keep the three roving pit bulls just barely fed so they are ravenous for interlopers…. Plus… You know, look for packages and pick up the mail.
So…
1. I am thankful for each and every one of you! I am thankful for the guys and gals that have such profound knowledge and share so eagerly yet check their egos at the door. I am envious of the people who can keep explaining how to install the same driver over and over and over when it is covered in about 2-3 stickys. I am in awe of some of you and thankful of all!
2. We have such diversity here… So many backgrounds, ethnicity, nationalities, etc. breeds an unusual amount of intellect, I feel. Drillers, Cowboys, Ranchers, IT, Software writers, software destroyers (LOL), Hackers, Modders, Boaters, 4-wheelers, Dredgers, PC repair, PC mods, etc…. People from pretty much everywhere, except, I think, Antarctica! (I think that is the only place we haven’t had someone chime in from…. I can hardly wait for that one!) “How long does it take for the heater to warm the hard drive when the Toughbook is at -50?”
3. I am thankful that we are the “Go To” place on the web for Toughbook info. YOU ARE ALL part of that. You should be proud… And thankful! We have ALL been where that newbie is just a few years ago… And we all seem to remember that in every response as this is pretty much a “Non-Flame Zone”…. Sometimes it surprises me. I have been a part of other forums throughout the years where EVERY question that had been answered before was answered with only one word…. “SEARCH!” I am glad we don’t do that here. While we encourage it… We don’t make it the rule.
4. This is NOT to be a religious thread! We ALL have our own values and from what I have seen… We each do fine by them… No need to impose what we think or feel in that regard on others. I am thankful for all of you, your families, as well as my own, of course. My thoughts go out to all of you during this Thanksgiving because, as Mark Twain said… I have yet to meet a man I couldn't learn something from!”… I similarly think… I have yet to be in a circumstance that, for whatever reason, I shouldn't be thankful for! (Even if it is to learn that I should NEVER put myself in THAT circumstance again!) And, of course, as well as explain…. We all learn in the process. The process of asking... The process of explaining. Every time it is done... Something new is added to the mix! I LOVE the open sharing that goes on here. I have learned so much here.
5. I am thankful for our troops overseas and those in the military and my thoughts will be with them and their families on Thanksgiving Day (And every day really!). Whether you believe what is going on in the world is right or wrong… We have Americans in harms way… They volunteered for that! They stepped up to the plate… And they are swinging the bat. We should ALL be thankful for them and remember them and think about them and what they sacrifice to do what they do… As well as those that have been wounded while serving and those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. For throughout the years... It is only because of them that we are here now!
I have to finish packing, charge the Toughbook and get ready to hit the rack. Thank you all for being on this forum. Please… Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving, one and all!
Rick

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on the forum. -
I would like to echo Rick's thoughts and add just a couple of my own. I too appreciate everything that you all have done for me in the few years I have grown to know you. We have shared TB's, parts, ideas and thoughts, but most importantly, we have shared friendship. This has been especially important for me living away from my wife and my real home for the past year and a half (and probably the next three or four years yet to come.) Without the fellowship of you and others on a couple of other forums (you know who you are!), my life here would be even more lonely. While I enjoy very much being able to take apart a TB and then put it back together with my own touches (and have it actually work...sometimes even better!), I enjoy even more being a part of a group of people that, (even helping in my own small way), can help others to enjoy the computers and the friendship. Bless you all, may you all worship/reflect in your own way and have a very safe Thanksgiving appreciating all that each of us has in material items, but more importantly, our health and the happiness that our friends and family bring to us all year. Also, I would like to send a special thanks to all our service members around this world, be they in harm's way or not, for their service and dedication to keeping this world a safer place. From one to another, I salute you all!

Thanksgiving has always been a "special" holiday for me for some reason. I truly believe I take in the true meaning of Thanksgiving more than any other.
We have no idea what we all have to be thankful for. Just the mere fact that when we roll out of our beds we have a light switch to turn on. Do you know how many people don't? You would be amazed. I was in Somaila 2 weeks ago on business and I wish I could have taken pictures for you. I cannot say very much at all, but there was a kid, looked about 4 or 5, eating this food that lord knows what is was out of a shoe. Man I just wanted to sit there with that child and cry. Take him home with me and teach him what life really is like. If only he had not been born in that place. God bless him.
As Rick stated this is a great place to come hang out. I enjoy to come here and just soak it all in. I think I actually solved a problem here the other day that somebody was having. I am usually the one that is asking the crazy questions that have been asked a trillion times. I admit, I do not search very much!
You guys and gals, please have a wonderful Holiday. At sometime this week when you are having a quite moment with yourself, please think about the things you have to be thankful for.
Everybody that is traveling please drive carefully. Let that jerk in front of you that is trying to get to Grandma's 5 minutes early. I am traveling to my In laws this year in northern Florida. I am meeting my wife and son down there since they are leaving in the morning. I am heading out sometime Wednesday, I hope!
Thank you everybody for being a great part of my everyday life. -

Whenever you write a check for that essential or luxury item, remember that a soldier writes a blank check payable to his country for an amount of ‘up to and including my life’
Happy Thanksgiving to all. -

Hippity Happity ta y'all from Sunny San Antonio!
I am thankful for this little place where I can go to putter around... and of course I am thankful for my beautiful wife & son, and daughter (fingers crossed) on the way. Nothing in the world could have prepared me for this; thankfully, the rewards are such that one cannot, must not fail. And for that too, I am thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! In addition to what has been said already, I'm grateful that this place exists and that I'm able to exchange ideas with like minded individuals. Be safe everyone, especially if you're traveling.

Hi to all,
Happy thanksgiven to all,
I have seen some of this forum grow. Every one here does not care were each ofus are from which is what I like, just like amatur radio (ham radio). Yes I am in to that as well but do not have my licance yet but any of the amatur around me have helped me in it so far and dont care if I call them on the radio as long as it is local not thorugh a repeater. -
Happy (Almost) Turkey Day from Arizona! Went to Tombstone yesterday and had a blast... The weather is perfect and there are SOOOO many stars out at night. I'm having a blast with the family (as usual) and am looking forward to my little piece of the cooking action tomorrow... I make "The Gravy"... I take about an hour with my secret spices and, as the saying goes that I heard from an old NC Hillbilly... "If you put it on top of your head... Your tongue would slap your eyeballs out trying to get at it!" My Dad used to tell me it as all in how you "wooly" the gravy. (How you stir it!) God I miss that man.... (He is someone else I am thankful for even though he is no longer here... he IS HERE!)
Anyway... If any of you are traveling to get to family... Please be safe and remember what George Carlin used to say.... Did you ever notice that anyone who drives faster than you is an Ahole but if they drive slower they are a moron? Just let them all be what they are and get to where you need to go safely please! I need you all back asking and answering questions later! -
I wish blessings and full bellies to you all this thanksgiving!! I am very thankful for what the Lord has done for me and this forum. You guys are truly a "tough" bunch and I have learned soo much from this forum and you guys that I can never repay you for it.
*raises his glass to Rick* Here's to you Rick! You have my admiration, respect, and devotion to you and this forum for as long as you will have me!!

Oh does it feel good to be back at home! Had a great Turkey day, spending time with relatives that I either enjoy or can't stand. We decided to come back late last night vs today and I am so glad we did.
I hope everybody gets home safely who is traveling.
Rick, I told you AZ is the place! It's amazing what you can see when you get out of the city and into no mans land in the sky.
