Anyone here have experience with alternate chargers for recent Blade Stealth models that come with a 100W one in the box? Everything I've read about the late 2019 GTX indicates that it uses less than 75W under full load, yet when trying some 85W chargers with a 100W certified USB-C cable, I'll get a popup on the desktop that says I need to connect the official adapter. I was thinking about getting the Hyper GaN 100W but don't want to shell out $100 only to ultimately need to return it if it doesn't work.

You're probably seeing that because they are using a non-standard USB-C PD charging. Any USB-C charger should work and without that notification. Never seen that happen on my Zbook using Apple chargers, Razer CoreX, Official TB3 dock. The only time I've ever received a notification like that was using an HP charger on a Dell laptop with the same barrel connector.

That’s software buggy, even with Razer core that still pops out, literally dgpu sleep and you don’t need 100 watt on this setting nor battery discharge when using it, just ignore close it. On the go I’m using old Razer Blade stealth 65 watt and Razer powerbank...it’s fine this half year....well when kaboom I’ll update

You may be on to something because I connected a charger with a 60W USB-C port and didn't receive an error message when directly connected to the laptop or through an AIO hub. I'll have to see if the same company offers a similar model with an 80W or higher rating.Last edited: Jun 4, 2020 -
Also I'd like to issue a clarification. I *DO* recieve a warning from windows saying "For full performance please connect your power adapter" on boot with a Razer core. That is purely because my Zbook supports USB-PD *AND* it has a 150W AC barrel connector. So yes limiting to 100W will cause my system to power throttle assuming I was loading both the CPU and GPU. I wont because I have an eGPU so I ignore the warning. Not sure if that is what you're seeing
As for a 100W power adapter Razer sells a USB-C 100W for your unit. Link below:

The warning that pops up on my laptop says something similar. The difference is the Blade Stealth only supports charging via USB-C.
That's the PSU included in the box. The brick is surprisingly large, and the cables are too long and unwieldy. I'd like to pick up something slimmer and/or with extra USB ports for charging my other devices so I don't need to bring multiple adapters when I travel. -

MicroCenter was selling the HyperJuice GaN 100W so I picked it up, and so far so good. I get the "not enough power" popup if another device is plugged in at the same time, but it doesn't seem to affect performance. It even works when plugged into my AIO USB-C hub.

Is the brick hot, I meant okay to touch?

I've tried a bunch of 3rd party chargers with my late 2019 GTX. They all work at low power, but the stealth refuses to draw enough power from any of them for gaming. For example, on a 90w charger, it won't draw more than 45W. Any additional power needs come from draining the battery. This includes a 100w charger that gives no synapse "not enough power" warning. On that charger, it won't draw more than 30w!
While it's tempting to blame the power adapters as being bad, that's definitely not the case. The amount of power drawn is controlled by the laptop, the charger simply tells it what the maximum possible is. I'm using 100w cables as well (but it won't even draw 60w, so...). The problem is 100% the stealth. Using a different laptop, they all deliver the maximum that laptop can draw with no problem.
It's still possible that the stealth will be happy with right 3rd party charger, but I have no idea what that might be. I've tried USB-C PD 2.0, 3.0, and 3.0 with PPS. All have the same results. I note that the charger that ships with the laptop is PD 2.0.
If anybody has found a usb-c power adapter that's verified to provide enough current (either using a USB-C powermeter, or by pushing the laptop hard and verifying that there's no battery drain) please share... -
Good finding I’m considering getting that tiny power brick saturotaku mentioned above but was more worried about the brick temperature like on blade 14 small power brick. I’ll stay with old stealth 65 watt for on the go since I don’t game so long outside, yes there’s no point getting 100 watt power brick if it discharging while on usage unless it’s only for better portability matter like mine.

I picked up this charger as an open box unit for $40. It definitely runs warmer than the HyperJuice but not distressingly so.
I put it through a couple 3DMark stress tests and observed no battery loss. It would drain if running Furmark and AIDA64 simultaneously, which is a completely unrealistic use case. I'm going to return the HyperJuice and get a shorter USB-C cable since the one that comes with the Platinum has to be 8-10 feet long. It'll be great when I use the laptop at my in-laws regular and vacation homes but unnecessary at home. -
Unfortunately I've only just come across this thread, but I've found exactly the same with mine! Tried a 60w charger, which I thought was faulty at first as the very most I could get my laptop to draw from it was 33w (measured with a USB-C power meter), but a friend has since got a Dell laptop with USB-C charging and his manages to draw pretty much the full 60w from it. Then tried a 90w charger, which mine draws a maximum of 54w from, while complaining that there's not enough power (even when it's drawing less than that, i.e. when the battery isn't charging etc).
I suspect this is all related to another issue I'm having with charging etc (which I've just made a post about here). It seems as though whatever component of the laptop decides how much power to draw from the charger is just calculating it completely wrong all the time, even with the original Razer 100w charger.
Alternate 100W USB-C chargers for Blade Stealth?
