I think something is wrong with my 2014 blade, but I'm not sure. When I load up SC2 on medium settings at 1080p, I get < 30 fps with a starting base (< 10 units on the screen). Is this expected? I would have thought this thing would kill SC2. SC2 is the only program running, and I've installed nothing but steam, SC2, and LOL.
I've done the following:
1. Confirmed SC2 is using the nvidia GPU in the tray icon for GPU activity
2. Tried setting 1080p in SC2 and also in the OS
3. Tried "disable display scaling on high dpi displays" for the executable
4. Re-installed latest graphics driver from nvidia gforce experience
5. Installed all windows updates
Can anyone confirm that this thing can actually run SC2? Or is there anything I might be doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Right click on it and choose run with graphics nvidia

This is a bit off topic and I hope you get some real advice about SC2, but how does LoL run on the RB over an extended period of time? Does it run smoothly at the 3k resolution?

I can try that, but like I said, the gpu monitor already says SC2 is using it. I've also configured SC2 in the nvidia menu to use the geforce, even though it was already selected when it was set to "auto".
I honestly haven't played a game yet. I'll try to run a test and get back to you.Br0fist likes this. -
Try enabling V-Sync under SC2 Options Menu.

I get an error, saying it's controlled by the nvidia menu. The nvidia menu is already configured to always use the geforce for SC2.
Makes no noticeable difference -
I have the 2013 Blade 14" and play Starcraft 2 at 1080p with pretty much all settings on high I believe. I usually get over 100 fps but I have seen it at like 50ish randomly, not sure why. I think it could pull higher settings pretty easy but just haven't tried. I've had it get stuttery only once or twice in the large number of hours I've played it. A quick restart fixed things. It sounds to me if there is something else wrong, not sure what though since you have everything up to date.

I am installing SC2 on my 2014 blade now and I am going to test the performance to compare against yours. I will respond to this when I have a chance to test it out.
-
I installed SC2 and tested it out. On maximum settings (V-Sync on, antialiasing off) at 1800p the rendered campaign menu inside the bar was choppy, but once I started a mission and was playing in the actual game it ran silky smooth no matter how many units I had on screen.
-
I played through a couple of the main story missions @ 1080p, graphics set to extreme with vsync and anti-aliasing enabled. FPS stayed in the 50's and never dropped below 45 even in battles with a large number of units on screen, so your system should have no issues handling this game.

Thanks for the info, that confirms that something is actually wrong here. Now how do I debug?
One odd thing I noticed is that sc2 is listed as 32 bit in the task manager. Is that normal? -
Probably, since it gets installed to programs files x86. I just launched the game to check and mine also shows 32bit.
-
LOL runs at 60fps (or nearly so) at native max res and settings on "high". The problem is the game interface will be so tiny you'll have trouble seeing your items or skills. On the 2nd-highest settings you'll easily get between 70-80fps at ultra settings.

Isn't there an option for UI scaling?

Make sure your power profile is set to performance mode and not to power saver.hfm likes this.

This was the culprit! Everything was locked into power saver mode (I have no idea why). Performance looks much more normal with it re-set to balanced. Thank you!

Everyone loves a happy ending. Glad you got it figured out, and that it was something simple as well.

Glad it worked out for you! SC2 at 3k resolution must be amazing.
Blade 2014 can barely run SC2?
