I received my RB14 today and I am a very, very sad man. This is the most beautiful PC laptop I have had the pleasure of holding. The keyboard is great. The touchpad is AMAZING compared to any other PC laptops I've worked on. As good as my MBP. It is thin and relatively light. The battery life seems to be great. I leave fingerprints all over it, but that is OK.

I am sad because of the screen. It is honestly speaking the worst quality screen I have ever worked on. The resolution is perfect for the screen size, mind you. I am currently on a glossy 1366x768 Dell Studio 15 and it is horrible, but the image quality is still better than the RBP screen. My MBP has a matte screen. It was one of the options they had back in 2009. The Mac has a really beautiful display. It is no retina, to be sure, but I have never looked at it and wondered whether it could be better.

When I read the reviews and the complaints about the screen, I figured that it couldn't be so bad. I am not a picky person. I just needed it to be functional. The rest would fall into place and I am sure it would work itself out. Sadly, I was wrong. I've already packed the thing away for return to Amazon because I don't want to be tempted into playing with it again and having my heart broken once more (I probably will).

Razer Blade 14, you are a butterface. You feel good in my hands. Your body is tight. You move fast, which I like, and you have some stamina to you. But you don't give me good grill. I can't stand to look you in the eyes.

    This is a sad day.

Did you go through Amazon, with windows 8.1, or did you go through Razer with a student discount? Also, was it the same screen as the others have posted?

Wanna buy mine? I felt the exact same way about my 2013 razer blade too. So much in fact that I ended up removing the original screen and replacing it with a high quality one with larger viewing angles and high color gamut display. I'm going to sell it in a couple weeks when I'm back home for the summer from school though. Unfortunately it ends up being too much of a distraction when I'm trying to study.

Could you post pictures? And maybe some of the bezel? I'm interested to see how close to stock your mod turned out.

Sure I can do that, but not for another couple of weeks until after I finish finals. The bezel looks exactly the same as factory though. I was a perfectionist about it and made sure that everything looked as though it was untouched.

This was good to read as I'm looking to replace my M11x R1, and was debating purchasing a 2013 Blade on Amazon. All this hate over the screen really had me reconsidering, but I'm going to give it a shot. If it does end up being as bad as most people claim, I'll just send it back.

I'm also interested in pics and would definitely be willing to buy your modded Razer Blade once you are done with finals!

Not everyone hated the screen, just most people ;) I didn't think it was THAT bad. If the new model hadn't come out right after I bought my 2013 I would have definitely kept it. I am pretty sure all the screens they used for the 2013 were the same model, but it's just that we all have different expectations and different eyes, plus on top of that what bothers one person may not bother the next. Some want more brightness, some more colors, some more contrast, some viewing angles and some want it all!

Yeah - you have to always remember to take any reviews with a grain of salt. Their standards might not be the same as yours. For example: I like SPAM (the food in a can), it's very tasty... and now people are making weird faces. =]

Hi I too am an ex M11x R1 owner. I believe the 2013 14" has a much better screen that the M11x. From what I can remember, the M11x had really bad viewing angles, remember how I had to readjust the screen moving it between positions while on my bed. Don't have the same problem with the Blade. Also the M11x screen was practically unusable outdoors where as the Blade performs admirably well. I use to have to re-adjust due to the reflection that comes from sunlight streaming in or from a room lamp while using the M11x, no issue with that on the Blade 14" due to the matte screen. Also the screen on the Blade is really bright. I have it on the lowest setting almost always. Much brighter that the M11x.

Colors don't "pop" on the Blade 14" compared to my last laptop, a 11" Macbook Air 2012. The blade screen looks washout when they are compared side by side, but the bight matte screen on the Blade totally removes any issue with reflection and such. I use to select a sit that is a good distance away from the window at the local coffee house to avoid this issue but with the Blade window seats are fine. [The Macbook Air was viewable too next to the window if I really turn up the brightness, don't have to do that on the Blade.] The blade screen comes stock with a colder profile which can be adjusted, I got mine on stock as I do like this presentation more that the warm profile I have seen so far.

I have been using the dell 3008wfp monitor for a couple of years now, I do all of my photo editing on that screen. It's color accurate, matte, bright, big with near perfect resolution for the viewing distance I got it at. But it cost close to $4000 SG when I purchased it. I got it connected to the Blade and side by side the Blade looks bland. Colors are not as accurate, viewing angles are not as great etc. The thing is, this is really a gaming ultrabook for what it is I think it does a really good job and that at relatively low price of $1850 sg. In fact I paid less for the Blade compared to the M11x. I do wish it was a 1600x900 screen that matches the quality of the 3008wfp but I doubt the tech exist especially in regards to gaming which takes ghosting into consideration. Either way, it's a big upgrade from the M11x.

The new blade 2014 is tempting though. Not just because of the screen but more so the nvidia 870m inside. Am really considering but the 512gb model at this point would cost me $3700 sg. I have the 256gb 2013 and space is really tight if you want to load lots of games. Can't make up my mind either to upgrade or buy a m-sata 1tb ssd to add to the second slot of my current blade.

You bet! When I'm finished I'll let you know and post pictures. I'll try to sell it here in the forums first before going to eBay, too.

Sweet. Thanks man. Maybe we both ought to get to 15 forums posts so we can PM each other.
