The new (and ugly) Alienware 14 scored a 4136pts in 3dMark11, according the review of LaptopMag.

    Alienware M14X R1: 1313 pts

    Alienware M14X R2: 2358 pts

    New Alienware 14: 4136 pts

    Razer Blade 14: 4042 pts

Very well for the little Razer Blade.

lol, yeah, no that was the score from an online review of the new alienware m14. Note I didn't call it the M14X. And no, I never owned an M14 or M14x. Though I have owned an M15x, M11X, M17X 3D, and M18X.

a 4000 score is very good considering my blade r2 with the 660m couldn't break 3000.

The ridges on the lid will give you problems if you are going after a full skin. Otherwise a plain carbon fiber skin is the only non tacky ones i've seen. If its just a sticker over the logo, then you would have to go for something ironic, which probably doesn't suit your need. I suggest your company Logo if you must.

I agree the logo does bring too much attention to a corporate board room.

EDIT: Ah sorry! Didn't realize that this post wasn't directed towards me.

Out of curiosity. might be interesting to see how much of the heat load is shared across the two heatsinks. As in do both sides get hot even when just the CPU is loaded. That is a good way of utilizing what little space you have. Apples does it with the retina macbooks and the new Macpro. Having one heatsink sitting there doing nothing always seemed like a waste to me.

I suppose it would be a matter of power consumption (the fans draw power too). Do two fans running slowly consume less power than one fan running a little faster? Certainly, there will be less noise with two fans running slowly.

Yeh, i would much prefer a constant low revving sound than sudden on and offs. My M17x r3 has that problem now. 30 seconds of total silence then boom.

    Hey there!

I just got my Blade Pro today ;) It is a great machine and a great experience! Even opening the boxes was worth every penny.

I'm just having a little issue, don't know if anyone else has seen this. I have configured the Switchblade's sensitivity and modified the right ALT key to work as the spacebar (for some reason my finger naturally falls there, so it was giving me headaches). Nevertheless, whenever I restart the computer o it goes to sleep, Synapse forgets these configurations. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Nice, I can't wait for my Pro =) Mind if I ask when you ordered it?

Also, yes on Synapse, but on my Nostromo. A unplug/plug routine usually fixes it, but seeing as how you can't do that on your keyboard/SBUI... Reinstall Synapse?

There was a synapse update. Did you get it yet? Can also uninstall and reinstall it. The tackpad buttons are a nice matte black this time around rather than glossy black.

haven't monitored gpu temps, need to install a program for that. busy reinstalling all me games after my system recovery. system recovery makes things easier for restoring, but I think I would prefer to delete the partition and have more extra space for games. you can purchase the usb recovery media for the blade through razer anyway.

battery life: got just shy of 4 hours downloading non-stop steam games, not bad at all (with kb on low brightness and display around 50 percent). figure real world use for church office work will be 4-6 hours a day.

That's really good, imo. I wish they Pro had a stronger battery to be able to match the 14' screen. I guess the much smaller power adapter helps too, just would be nice to go as long on the Pro as the 14 =P

you guys are lucky I' was at the hospital visiting church family all day and packing moving boxes, so now I have to stay up and finish my father's day sermon, gives me time to run some benchmarks while I'm at it. running 3dmark11 with gpuz logging max gpu temps.

Max GPU temps running 3dmark 11 was 80 degrees celcius. hope that helps some of you.

GPU temp maxes out at 80 degrees celsius. Hope that helps.

now unless i take my baby's thermometer and stick it on the bottom of the blade I'm not going to get a very good external temp reading while gaming or anything, suffice to say it stays comfortable to the touch as well as the lap in my opinion. again i have to give kudos to team razer for their thermal engineering skills.

waiting on nvidia to provide newer gfx driver for the 765m too.

lol, no the keyboard is still not functioning, though it says on synapse when i press the fn keys that the kb brightness is changing. maybe there is a loose cable. will let the razer techs have a crack at it. only other thing i can think of is some bios issue or something. i was down to like 2 percent battery life and turned the keyboard lights off to get me an extra couple minutes. then i powered down my computer. ever since then the lights have not come back on, and i have tried every thing i know of to no avail. Tomb Raider runs fantastic, with the exception of the lame AMD only tressFX for hair. to give Lara nice hair I shouldn't have to go from 35fps down to 18fps...

    Anyway, to my fellow dads out there, happy fathers day. Remember you guys are leaders. And for fathers day I will be gaming as much as possible :}

wow great question. i wish i could own a blade pro right now as well, but definitely don't have the funds for that... b/w the edge pro and the blade 14, if i could only have one i'd say the edge pro actually. the controller dock is really that awesome to me, I love to be able to sit in my recliner and just game comfortably. I say that b/c I already had a blade 17" (r2). If i didn't have a blade 17" I would say get the blade 14 over the edge pro, b/c as fun as the edge pro is, its not nearly as useful for office purposes. i mean if you really need a device beyond gaming and light multimedia consumption, get an actual laptop. That may change if the edge keyboard dock works great. But even then the blade 14 has a better battery life, is thinner, and i suspect with the edge pro kb dock, it may weigh about the same. its also more future proof given it has the haswell and 765m gpu. but still i can see myself playing titanfall on the edge one day soon and be very happy.

can't wait to see the next iteration of the edge btw. i'm telling them make an 8" windows tablet that's super thin and light and sell it with the controller pack bundled. would be ideal for me. also can't wait to see razer partner with oculus and come up with some VR enhancement technology to go with their phenomenal headsets. e3 2014 maybe? i'm off to bed guys.

by the way, i already mentioned this, but the pinnacle wireless hdmi usb adapter coupled with the razer edge pro in controller mode works great if you want to mirror your game onto the big screen for others to watch. zero input lag that i can detect using it. its like $80 at best buy. its not a substitute for the hdmi dock, but its a cool gizmo.

Thanks for the info on the temp there John.

80 Celsius is actually quite high for 3DMark 11.
Maybe the ambient is quite high at the time as well.

Doesn't running prime95 and 3Dmark11 like really stresses out your hardware, so in terms of like real-world performance it should be less right? 80 C should about right because of the new GPU Boost 2.0, 80 C is like the norm, unless that's only for desktop GPUs? I guess if you were to run Crysis 3 on highsettings and capture your CPU/GPU temperatures that should be what I'm looking for in terms of real-world performance/temperatures

I wonder why 15 inchers fell out of favour all of a sudden. I still think it is the best form factor.

I do envy the Mac boys for that 16:10 15inch screen on the macbook pros. If i could fresh install windows 7 on a macbook pro and have it run reliably, id buy it in a heartbeat.

John mentioned up to a 4-6 hour estimate on a slightly conservative use. Not too bad, imo.

I agree, actually. I was very caught in between when deciding on the 14 or the Pro. The 14 was slightly too small (using 17 now, brother has 14 which I tested out) and 17 can get too big for portability as well. 15 would actually have been a sweet spot for me.

15', .88 inches with a really good GPU? Yep, no hesitation from me there.

Razer need to make a 15 incher with 45wCPU (like apple) and an ips screen. Have that and a lot of creative professionals would flock to it. Especially since razer will offer a better GPU and optimus support in windows. I think it would be a good alternative for those who don't want the Switchblade on the 17. I think a compact 16:10 15inch will not be much bigger than a 14inch laptop.

They can charge as much as a macbook pro retina and people would still buy it for the GPU.

Agree. As a consumer, definitely would want another 15' choice. As razer though, definitely not. Lol. Gonna cost too much for them to have another line of laptop.

My opinion, 15' and 17'. I'm pretty sure the 14' hits a huge market as well though.

. I already mentioned I like the trackpad and buttons, they're super accurate and the buttons are nice and clicky. the buttons are matte black, not glossy like the old blade. for that matter the whole unit is really matte black all over, which I prefer. Even the thin black plastic strip (needed for the antennas to function) along the spine is a matte black that perfectly matches the color of the aluminum (again on my old blade r2 the strip is glossy). The little improvements make it ooze class. I can snap a few other photos when I get back from church later today.

Wrong. macbook pro's are actually the most reliable windows laptop, its been tested and you can google about 'macbook pro the most reliable windows laptop'.

The razer blade 14 is the best laptop in performance per cubic inch but I dont like the screen is 1600x900, igzo displays are going to be 3200x1800 and cellphone igzo display at 1920x1080.
