I just bought a new Razer Blade 14 and I have been issues with the screen not coming back on after it goes to sleep. I was wondering if this is a common problem or just a bad unit. If it is a common problem is there any way to fix it?
Thanks for any help you can give.

i just shut the lid and it goes to sleep. i know if you leave it asleep to long you have to hit the power button for it to restart but it goes back to where you were. hope that helps.

If I close the laptop lid for a short period of time, when I try to wake the laptop you can see the backlight come on but not the picture (stays black). The same thing also happens if I leave the lid open and the laptop goes to sleep. The only way to get the screen to come back on is to hold the power button until the computer shuts off then reboot or close the lid for 5+ minutes. I have tried updating drivers and reinstalling windows back to factory settings with no luck fixing the problem.
I have only had the blade for 4 days now. I am thinking about taking it back and swapping it for another. -
ya i would probably swap it out. that does not happen on mine. do you have the restore usb drive? you may want to just reformat it before you take it back.
-
I don't have the restore usb drive I have just been using the windows 8.1 update and recovery / remove everything and reinstall windows. Once you click that there is an option to do a deep clean to remove all personal information.
Thanks for your help. -
Reset your BIOS to default settings.

My razer also does not sleep well. I close the lid and it will come back up (i see the green light on the logo) and eat all the battery. Any advice would be appreciated

Guys I had this issue on my blade as did another guy. We couldn't figure out the source. For me the sleep issue got progressively worse to the point it would have the problem after some cold boots. I performed multiple factory resets and the problem kept coming back.
Eventually I sent it back to Razer and they, after 2 weeks, replaced the unit. Which I assume means they weren't able to figure it out either.
My new unit has had zero issues with sleep.

If you go to page 137 on the owners thread TJCacher describes the gray screen issue that I was having. To my knowledge no one was able to solve it without sending the unit back.

There is a way to solve the sleep issues - but it isnt elegant.
I ran into a couple unique issues with a Blade that I purchased (it was listed as refurbuished) including the grey screen issue.
It took 2 clean installs, but I think the key was letting windows find all of the drivers except for the nvidia drivers, synapse and the dolby drivers.
When I did a clean install, but used the drivers from Razer website - I ended up ultimately having the same issues again. So I tried doing a fresh install and only taking drivers I know windows wouldnt obtain - and now the laptop is running well (knock on wood).
Also, I didnt use a razer usb to restore/reinstall - I used a USB DVD drive with a windows 8.1 disk.
Hope this helps. -
I discovered a workaround for this issue and a permanent solution:
Workaround:
- When the screen has gone black / blank close the lid.
- Wait for the white light that fades in and out to come on and fade in and out once.
- Then open the screen.
- Then press the Windows key as quickly as possible.
If the issue occurs when booting, simple allow enough time for the computer to boot completely (I recommend 60+ seconds), then follow the steps above.
Permanent Solution:
- Send it to Razer for a warrantied repair. This is a known issue and they warrantied mine without any questions.
-
I also have this issue on Blade 14" 2014 and fond out that connecting monitor/TV via HDMI while in black screen immediately helps. This is most likely an NV Optimus issue.

Guys, I was having the same issue. I updated all drivers and the issue came back.A
I formatted my razer and installed all updates and the issue came back.
Now I formatted my PC but didn't update drivers, and the problems looks like it's gone. The issue may be with some of these drivers:
Intel HD graphics driver
GeForce Graphic Driver (I didn't install any new graphic update, only the Experience software update).
Any other driver that doesn't install with windows update.
My PC was also crashing during games, and also having issues with Google Chrome (that was randomly asking 100% from the GPU). All problems seems to be gone. I'll update if anything new comes up. -
The sleeping issues came back. It has several issues that are apparently unsolvable:
1. Sometimes, after it sleeps, the lid and lights light up, but the computer doesn't awake fully. Sometimes, messing with the usb (taking on or off) and with the HDMI (putting on or off) awakes it, but not aways. Everytime it wakes up, it makes the "took off a usb driver" noise.
2. Sometimes I click to turn off the computer, but it logs off instead. And sometimes more than once. It seems that the laptop has a issue with backrunning programs. I ran antivirus and reinstalled all the new drivers, but the problems seems to stay. -
