Received mine last night. Got a chance to download Guild Wars 2, Shadowrun Returns and couple of other "lighter" titles. I have not had a chance to really kick the tires, but the one thing I did notice is that I was able to get about 3.5-4 hours with a mix of checking out/installing games, running some updates, and surfing the web. And that was on about a 90% charge. Anyone else had similar/different results from battery life?
-
Thanks for giving a time for the battery life. I was eagerly awaiting that.
-
No problem. I was eager to find out myself. I will caveat that this was the straight out of the box (with about 30 minutes of charge time) data. Also, I was not playing games as much as just testing them out to see how they ran. It seems like most of the folks on here have been focused on the gaming angle (naturally) and likely that has been plugged in. I will not be plugged in very often, so for me the mobile aspects are what I plan on testing the most in the next couple of weeks.
-
Anyone dare to jack up the refresh rate yet? 75Hz would be a nice place to start since that appears to be my threshold.
-
Just started playing with mine now. Took some unboxing footage, bout to shoot some game cinematics or something, and load those up. The screen is beautiful. I'd say the viewing angles are pretty good as well. The screen is visible and discernible from most angles, just not as vibrant as when looking straight on. And man that thing is vibrant! Coming from a Fuji Q584 I can safely say that I love high res screens. Scaling also doesn't appear to be an issue (of course it comes set at max out of box and I don't plan on changing it). Funnily enough the Battle.net launcher doesn't Windows 8 scale, so it's itty bitty tiny, but not unusuable. I also don't see any blur when using paint or dinking around on W8. Will definitely check it out in game though.
The build quality is great. A few things I'd note just right out of the box as cons (but manageable) are the comically loud touchpad buttons (which I'll probably never use) and the short travel on the keyboard keys, which will definitely take some getting used to. Definitely shorter throw then a Macbook Pro's keys, but considering what this packs inside the thin frame, I'm guessing it was a necessity. It definitely feels high quality though, every aspect of it down to the power brick.
Also, absolutely no fan noise when idling in W8 (which is expected), will record some video so you can hear it in game.hfm, Xentar712, SRSR333 and 1 other person like this. -
@zee
Yeah exactly what I was describing about the trackpad buttons, even worse than last year's!
Did you figure out how to enable two finger right click?

I heard from one person they are having wifi connection issues. Is anyone having issues with their wifi connection?
-
oooo... i'm excited... I actually like clicky buttons....
-
I have zero WiFi issues either at work or at home.

Awesome, sounds like I made the right choice! I can't wait to see the screen in a video. I was really concerned about overheating and fan noise. I will mainly be using it for Photoshop, Video Editing and Development. I wish they would kick up my ship date instead of 1-2 months like Amazon initially said.
-
I didn't know the panel could go over 60Hz. That's great if it can.
Speaking of Hz display output - anyone try hooking it up to an external monitor - how did that go via the HDMI? -
Awesome, that's great to hear. It might mean it's an isolated case or something with his network. Thanks! =]
-
No, sorry, let me rephrase. That's my threshold that I can physically see the difference between. I haven't gotten mine yet.

I haven't figured it out yet, but I'm definitely going to set it when I get a chance. I remember someone posting that you could do it through settings.
Likewise I have zero WiFi issues, and right now I am on my parents horrible WiFi. I can only imagine it will be even better with my Asus--N router at home. -
Yeah, I'm excited about testing out my Apple Airport Extreme on something other than my phone.
-
And here's the unboxing:
And a quick cine (sorry about the quality, getting it to focus took me a bit. I also had to turn brightness down because while it looked fine to look at, the camera was picking up too much light):

Thanks Zee! You da man.

It's not a true unboxing video without the cat jumping in all the boxes lol! Nice work, thanks!

Thanks for the great photos. Yeah, the viewing angels are nothing like they promised... Still bad. I wished the screen would be like rMBP..

Man, quick and good video. Like your baritone and American accent, and your cat's cute. Oh, I really want mine now. Hopefully mine does ship on the 8th, just spoke with Razer CS in the U.S. Have fun, mate!

Were the pictures you took taken at the threshold of when the colors start to distort? If so, that's not bad. Not great either. Any backlight bleed on the screen. How are the speakers?

That was right at the edge of distortion. That said, I think it came with the brightness at 100%, so when I tone it down the pictures are a bit better. That said the photos don't do the screen justice, especially looking straight on.
I can also confirm that both cases for the 2013 blade fit the new one as well. I like both, though I thought the neoprene sleeve would be soft on both outside and inside, the outside is more plasticky.

Speakers are the same as last year as far as I can tell. No backlight bleed for me.
As zee said screen is amazing for me. For my every day web use I really love it. I sit at 2x 2048 x 2560 monitors at work, so I like my sharp screens, and this thing looks great.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk -
I have to say the speakers are pretty good for such a thin laptop. I like their placement too. Though I doubt I'll use them all that often.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk -
I can live with those angles. Like I said before, I don't care if the person next to me can read my screen. I actually prefer they don't. And I definitely don't look at my screen with it reclined all the way back our stand towering over it!

I finally decided against the Ghost Pro! I just ordered a 256GB Razer Blade 14 tonight with the Armor Sleeve. Now, to see when I will actually get it!

Any suggestions on a good laptop backpack that's waterproof that will carry the laptop and a few peripherals like headphones and mouse?
-
@xerojin, even with a sleeve this thing will fit in most bags, so really whatever you want. I carry mine in a filson with the caselogic sleeve. Bag is leather and canvas and the sleeve is neoprene so it would take a lot of water to get through. That being said I don't take the bag in rain if I can help it.

Finally got off the fence Ikas! You will like it, no doubt, if not take advantage of the return policy, but I doubt it

Yeah, just needed more solid info on temps and fan noise and from what I've read so far everything is kept under control.
Just have to wait until 5/23. I hope! -
This is the one I'm getting. Want a high quality bag for my Razer Blade

If you're looking for cheap but quality, I know slickdeals.net had a tumbuk2 laptop backpack yesterday for $22, though it may have expired. Love those backpacks. I bought a couple several years ago on sale and the first one still works/looks flawless. They might last me the rest of my life.
I also bought a SLAPPA back in the day for my 17" MSI beast, and that backpack worked great, although it was huge. They have smaller bags and shoulder bags though.

Haha if you aren't too worried about the price, I use a Tumi Alpha Bravo Kingsville Deluxe. It's a beautiful, well crafted backpack haha. I fit my Alienware Area 51 m15x in there, so the Razer should fit in beautifully.

I could see how its funny to buy a $2K+ laptop and then search for a cheap bag, but in this case I think you're getting good value for the Razer Blade for its price, whereas bags can range up to $100s and not offer more than a $20 alternative. I'd like to think I'm always buying value.
That said, I'd imagine a pouch that fits a m15x would be massive for the smaller Razer Blade.
I'm using this today: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0079QMA1K?pc_redir=1398692082&robot_redir=1
Fits blade perfectly, also has a pocket for my tablet, as well as a bunch of other pockets for stuff. Really depends what style you're looking for.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk -
Well there's actually three different size pouches, nicely designed for different size laptops. The only reason my alienware fits in there is actually there is a space in between the two laptop pouches. It's actually made, seemingly, for a 13 or 15 in mbp. Small, snug, padded pouches. For a tight, small back pack, it has a lot of room.
I bought a year ago and have already travelled twice around the world with it and have had zero problems. I do agree though: you are spending quite a bit of money on a laptop, tablets, headphones, etc. and you are carrying a backpack everywhere you go. Might as well make the backpack nice as well.

i got a targus backpack for mine. its smaller and i like that because i dont like huge backpacks. and it has plenty space for those things. i think it had some waterproofing. i cant find it anywhere though. the exact one i got must be discontinued but they have some similar ones.
such as:
15.6â Revolution Checkpoint-Friendly Backpack | Targus Tablet, Smartphone, and Laptop Cases | Targus -
can someone tell the the manufacturer of the display and model number if possible.
i would think it is sharp because they have a 14 inch 3200 x 1800 igzo panel -
I got a Thule Enroute off Slickdeals a few weeks ago in anticipation of getting this laptop. It's built to snug fit the 15" MBP and an iPad, so it should be perfect for the Blade and the Padfone X station(if it ever releases...) It's a pretty good bag - weatherproof, easy access to the pockets and has 2 hard shell compartments for mouse and sunglasses. It's VERY small, which is why I got it. My only gripe is it doesn't stand very well when nothing is in the bottom of the bag. I'm thinking of 3D printing a plastic frame in the bottom to fix that.
-
AFAIK, Sharp is the only one making IGZO for now. LG makes IPS and Samsung makes PLS. I'm not sure if they mix their technologies up - would seem inefficient.
-
Anyone figure out PCIe.ssd.yet?
Xperia Z Ultra Tapatalk -
Nope, not yet. I will probably try at some point, but it's a gamble considering the only way to know for sure at this point is probably for someone to buy one and attempt to install it...
-
If I win the plextor m6e giveaway contest, I'll give it a shot!
I'm still deciding if I want to buy one anyways. It would be nice in my desktop if didn't work with the razer but would remove my ability to go SLI in the future.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
Yeah... Definitely running liquid cooled microATX at the moment, so I don't have that option
.

The Razer sleeve isn't that nice. Definitely not worth $40! I got one with my laptop and will probably never use it.
The backpack I use is the Ogio Renegade. Love that bag. Fits everything in it but doesn't look super big or anything. If you want something smaller, I would recommend the Timbuk2 Hudson. Its great for traveling when you don't need a backpack. -
I'm really eager to get my hands on this laptop. Unfortunately I don't know if I'll be able to (I'm leaving the US before it is supposed to ship).
I had a chance to play around with last year's iteration and I was very impressed. And this thread has so far only further increased my want for it... :/
