The port is an audio/mic. Most headsets new headsets push both through one port. Even then there are adapters on the cheap which split both from a USB or combined connector. Just Google/amazon audio mic splitter.

Just FYI. I will be updating my video/image thread this weekend with a bunch of videos/battery stats/etc. I've taken this week this weekend. I've just had a final and final project (blade did flawless on both!) due this week.

    Can't wait!
Can you see if updating the Intel VGA drivers fixes the resolution issues?
Would love to see more temps during gaming if you don't mind.
    Thanks Zeelobby :)

Definitely. I will add that to my list of things to check. I've also been doing a bunch of performance tests running games from an external USB 3.0 drive, and even a USB 3.0 SD card reader, so hopefully I can post those as well.

Hey guys, in anticipation of hopefully receiving the Blade 14 soon, does anyone know of a good sleeve for the laptop? I'm not looking for a hard or neoprene case. More like a velvet sleeve, similar to the Alienware sleeves that coke with their laptops

So that's the deal with the shortage of units, they're coking out with the AWs. Those AW boat anchors are always a bad influence. :)

First post in this forum, really good stuff!
Ordered my 256gb in the middle of April, was supposed to ship today, but it got pushed back to the 12th. I'm hoping they actually mean it (an extension of 4 days seems pretty specific). I want to bring up the topic of backpacks again: I'm a college student, and I'm looking for something light and portable, but still enough room to hold an additional few folders and an iPad. I've been looking at the Cocoon SLIM backpack. Looks pretty cool, just not that much room for books and folders. Any suggestions? (50-100$ range). Thanks!

I found the colors a bit washed out so I calibrated my screen using my Spyder4Pro. It looks better now. I really like the screen! I attached the ICC profile(I think) but YMMV since our screens probably aren't calibrated and are slightly different.

Also, has anyone else had throttling issues? I used GPU-Z when using Skyrim and Crysis 3 and it said the clock speed was throttled at some points. For Crysis 3 it was about half the time. According to GPU-Z it was due to insufficient power. At first, I thought it was thermal reasons because the video card got up to 94C. The power brick is awfully small though so I'm wondering if it's good enough.

Guys, although I've cancelled my order (sigh), I'd still like to know how X-Plane 10 performs on the Blade... Anyone with a Flightfactor B777 Worldliner and a full X-Plane 10 copy, could you try out different graphics settings and see which particular configuration produces an average 20-25 FPS frame rate? Just for information's sake. Because, just saying, X-Plane 10 cranked up is more intensive than Metro: Last Light or Crysis 3. I would especially like to see how it performs at native resolution.

I think I was getting dips a low as 860 on the clock. Not terrible but still... I was pushing it to the limit though so I can easily back off - I'm mainly concerned because the reason for throttling was power consumption.

Then that is really throttling since the base clock is 941... oh well I hope that it is very rare and occasional, we expected that the 150W psu would be the limit for this powerful configuration as such the thermal headroom for the small design. Well that shows that Razer has pushed everything to the limit. Let's see how the long term operating turns out to be with degrading battery and psu as a degrading cooling system... Nice they are pushing it but I feel the technology is not there yet, but only pushing they will get there. I might still get one latter this year.

Well if it overheats from normal use, that should be covered under warranty. Regardless I bought a 3-year squartrade warranty, so don't count on me being cautious, haha

I ran a few tests last night with and without a cooler on my lap. It helped a minuscule amount with the internal temps, maybe 2-3°C difference. This video card really likes to be over 90 degrees. It definitely felt better on my legs to have a cooler though. They did a pretty good job with the heat dissipation and fan placement to make it do well on it's own.

Is the SSD user replaceable? If it is, does it void the warranty? If it is, I was thinking of getting the 128gb model and replacing the SSD with a big Samsung EVO.

Probably this has been answered previously already, but since this thread got rather huge, one more time:
What are your experiences with regards to battery run time?

Light usage conditions would be especially interesting since gaming on battery is always a bad idea :)

Downgrade? Haha, it's going to be one hell of an upgrade, in just about every term, including GPU and screen pixel density. The Blade has a 3200x1800 14" screen; the rMBP has a 2880x1800 15" screen. That's 576 000 more pixels in less space. Don't worry. It's gonna be good, no, I mean great.

I'm considering buying this laptop, but there are two possible issues about it that might make me ponder purchasing it or not.

1.) This article says that the heating, for extended periods of gaming, gets very hot in the df and jk area of the keyboard:

Hands on: New Razer Blade review | Laptops and netbooks Reviews | TechRadar

How hot does the keyboard get in those areas and about how long does it take to get uncomfortable or even painful? Should I also buy a keyboard to go with it? How likely or unlikely is it that the heat could damage the computer over about a year span?

2.) How loud are the fans? Is it at the point where you'd rather just use some from of headphones/earbuds while gaming, even if you don't want to use them?

I'd greatly appreciate replies as this would be my first gaming computer purchase and I really want it to be successful.

P.S. Please don't bombard me with comments telling me to not get it because desktops...blah blah. I know what I want and what I'm doing.

I have not had any problems with either item that you are concerned about. This machine gets warm. In certain spots (near the power button) it can get uncomfortably so. That said, the heat has to be channeled somewhere and that area is not a place most people will rest their hands. Regarding the fans, it is absolutely incredible how this machine stays quiet. If you are gaming in a library, you will definitely find the fans to be noticeable. Short of that, it is nothing more than the sound you will get from an ultrabook. My Dell XPS 12 had far louder fans and that was a machine without a dedicated GPU.

I should disclose that I have been playing Diablo III and Guild Wars 2, so I have not pushed the limit on this machine. I will defer to those who have spent time with much more demanding games, but my experience in the first week has been exceptional. I have never spent more than $800 on a laptop until this one. I was feeling guilty and nervous about this purchase, but I honestly cannot think of a better device purchase. You will not regret it.

Thank you for your reply! I'm happy you enjoy it and this is my first big step into the PC-master-race, PC gaming-enthusiasts and PC moding categories. I'm looking at majoring in Computer Engineering or Computer Science and this seems like a good step in that direction, as well as a step into my 25-30 hour gaming weeks with a bunch of learning about PC settings and hardware.

wow you can make up your opinion on a youtube video without even knowing the settings ?
By default the retina display is quite saturated, you should know that, but in 3 clicks you can get same result on Razer...
The RB 14 IZGO display is in the same league of the rMBP, don't need to worry. And of course the blade is much better than anything apple ships now, in every single department, except the touchpad

That's exactly right. The screen is quite capable of being calibrated to be as saturated as the rMBP. When calibrating, I was able to get 98% of the RGB spectrum, which is pretty good. 99% is usually what I see in high end monitors. Low end monitors are usually stuck around 75% of RGB the spectrum but can still look good

Anyone have any issues with their USB 3.0 ports? When I plug my memory card reader on the left hand side ports, it cycles on and off. The right port is better but still disconnects every once and a while when I try to access a really large file. I tried my external SSD and the same thing happens.

There is no need to OC the Blade just lower the resolution to 900p/1080p and it will still pretty much play any game on high or max settings while still looking just as good as all other gaming laptops with the the standard 1080p screens most come with.

The card already throttles from the power supply so overclocking would petty much be pointless. I think they designed the psu to keep the card below its thermal limits in such a small chasis. We'll probably never be able to push the card to its full potential, but it's still better than an 860m.

Edit: even if I could OC, I wouldn't anyways. 94C is hot enough! :)
