    Latest update

New LG panel arrived and is working. Immediately, color and viewing angles are vastly improved. The screen is not as bright and the white is a little softer. Nothing dramatic. The hard part now. Taking the screen apart and mounting it without damaging anything.

I will post pictures of the tear town process.

The screen was ordered through ebay. Just be sure to contact the seller and confirm they will be shipping the LG panel and not a compatible version. For reference, the screen is: LP140WD2-TLE1

Keep in mind, this is still a TN panel. Viewing angles will not be as good as IPS. However, when tilting the screen vertically and horizontally, the colors barely shift. I will take some before/after pictures of a few different games showing off some dark and light environments as well as general text editing and web browsing pictures.

I only have my Nexus 4 phone for pictures, so don't expect anything fancy. (=

That is so cool! If you're doing it yourself and are feeling generous if you could make a step by step walk through, it would be much appreciated! That way we could all join you in the beauty of a better screen :)

Is the repair place you brought it to doing it for you or are you doing it yourself? I would imagine if it works these guys might have a new business opportunity for small scale anyway..

    Good news first..

    Regarding the LG panel:

    1. LP140WD2-TLE2 is equivalent to the LP140WD2-TLE1 panel is available online...
    2. Screen mod can be done and the new screen will fit.
    3. Connections all match up and work.
    4. Image quality, color quality, viewing angles all are WAY better.

    Bad news...

The LG panel (as with most panels) is held together by a metal frame which is clearly assembled by machine. In a traditional laptop, the entire screen is mounted with the housing. This however, makes the lid much thicker. Razer was aiming for a thin laptop and as a result uses a custom screen which is not housed in the aforementioned metal frame. In order to make this screen work in the RB, the housing must be removed. Essentially, when you take the RB apart, the components of the screen (glass, diffusers, backlight, etc.) are held in place by the bezel. I have tried carefully to remove the housing but ended up scratching the diffuser papers, and damaging the glass panel.

I'm going to order another screen and take it to the repair company I mentioned this week and see what kind of luck they have. I suspect they are going to face the same set of challenges.

In summary, I'm not quite sure how feasabile disassembling the screen will be. I haven't given up yet, but this is why I haven't posted any pictures or results yet.

I believe I answered all questions asked in this post as well.

@LanceAvion you would need a LVDS to eDP bridge, none of which I know of exist. There are bridges from eDP to LVDS, but that will not work.

Did you do any photo or video documentation of the panel deconstruction?

Perhaps a dremel tool that can make precision cuts and a padded clamp to hold it would make it easier?

Too bad, I was really hoping to do this. Only thing holding me back is the screen.

Wishfully posting so we can get an update...

Really tempted to continue where the OP left off. I absolutely can not stand the display on this unit (impulse purchase).

It seems that a lot of digging and confirmed information that there is a display that successfully works. It's simply a matter of getting it to fit properly. So you essentially might lose 2-3 screens in the process of taking the actual screen apart. Small price to pay if you were willing to spend 2k on a laptop.

does anyone knows if its possible to put the new screen on the 2013 version?
Despite of the touch factor, all i'm interested is in a better panel

Sorry to grave dig, but can you even purchase the screen outright?
