My battery capacity has degraded dramatically, so I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a new one?
Thanks

I think the only recourse is to send it in to Razer for support unless you can find one by googling.
-
mhm I really want to avoid sending it in, since I live in the UK

I think there are some UK retailers, maybe they are able to help you? They are not official though.
-
Have you tried searching?
-
I have tried searching but I havent found anything. That's why I'm asking on the forum.
I'm not posting on here for the fun of it, I did try to look myself. -
Any idea which retailers?
I'm finding that most placed here haven't got any parts for it at all. Thanks in advance. -
Hi,
I own a Razer Blade 17" 2014 and have been looking for a replacement battery for months now.
No luck. Havn't been able to find a one, new or used.
Only source until now was Razer. This will cost you shipping to the US + $250 + return shipping
-
You have to send it in. Because I guess we're all too stupid to replace the batteries ourselves. I had such an incident. I even told Razer that the laptop was out of warranty because I opened it, and was willing to pay for a replacement, but they flat out refused. They said only way to get one was to send in the laptop. That, and their rude and condescending tone, I can't and won't ever recommend a Razer laptop for anyone, not to mention it's form before function in this laptop. Thankfully the company that I bought the Razer from said they'd accept it as a return even though I told them that I had opened the bottom cover. Kudos to them.

Has anyone else had any luck finding a replacement battery for a Razer Blade 14"? Do they all use the same 70Wh lithium-ion battery?
I'm also based in the UK... -

Came across this the other day, but it's expensive!Bryan Mueller likes this. -
That's in Singapore Dollars, so it's actually only about $150 USD.
Nice find! -
I am having similar issues with my RB 2014. Battery percentage is all over the place. I would say 95% of the time I have used this laptop while plugged in. Not even two years old and needs a battery.
-
Yeah $150 + shipping and maybe import duty (if unlucky!), and it lands in the same ballpark as going straight to Razer...
There must be other sellers around, just gotta hunt them down! -
Is this the same as the 2015 model's battery? Are they compatible? I am very close to ordering this if I know it won't explode my 2015 rb.Last edited: Feb 13, 2016

No idea dude - maybe try comparing pictures from iFixit?
-
You could try rebuilding your own, or ask a friend to if you aren't comfortable doing this sort of thing.

Laptop nowadays have lithium polymer packs. Those need to be handled with far more care than these lithium cells from the video.
Lipo packs even lose capacity when being bend too much. -
Pic looks the same

I've been looking for a battery for my 2013 for a while now, so I decided to try this. The battery looks identical to the battery that came with the laptop (even has "Betty" on it). Installation was easy outside needing to find a tiny star bit to unscrew the back cover. However, I'm having mixed results as far as performance goes. One of the first few times I tried discharging it I got about the amount of battery life I was expecting (~3 hours of moderate to heavy use). However, now the battery meter in Windows is behaving really strangely. I can't say whether it's the battery or something else, but when I unplug the AC adapter, the meter sits at 100% for a while. Eventually it will suddenly drop to 50% or so, and then I get maybe 30 minutes from there before the laptop turns off. It must be a calibration issue of some sort, because I don't think the battery is fully charging either (no charging when it's stuck at "100%"). I'm using some 3rd party power tools to get an idea of what's going on now, so I'll report back if I find anything. Razer unfortunately still seems like the best option for a replacement battery. Just wish they would sell the part instead of requiring the laptop to be sent in for service.

No luck with that replacement battery unfortunately. When monitoring with BatteryBar, it will claim to charge to 27,000 mWh, then suddenly shut down after only 5 minutes of use, then claim to have a capacity of 7,000 mWh instead. Then I can hibernate the laptop for a day, and suddenly the capacity is 22,000 mWh. Requested a replacement from the vendor, hopefully the next one works better.

Any luck on a replacement? I am looking to go this route if it is possible. Pretty tired of waiting for Razer's reply/I can only imagine their prices...
-
The replacement didn't do much unfortunately. It would get to around 70%, then start discharging. If you left the laptop on, it would eventually discharge itself to zero. I swapped back to the original battery and stay mostly plugged in now (ordered a couple aftermarket power supplies after the original failed).
I was considering getting a new Blade, but instead recently placed an order for an Aero 14. I have a lot of Razer products, but I'm not quite satisfied with their cost vs quality on the Blade. -
Interesting behavior you described here.
Basics about the battery:
Li-ion till 2015, Li-po from 2015. It seems to have stayed the same except that.
The battery is named "Betty" has 6400mAh and is 11.1V.
It is an arrangement of 6 cells with assumably 3200mAh each.
Cell Label: SL426399
The charging part is integrated into the battery and is connect over an SPI Bus Slave with the system.
Balances the cells.
The Main controller that actually decides if it charges is the "Texas Instruments BQ25A" actually TI BQ24724A.
http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/bq24725a.pdf
Also an SPI bus device.
That bugger regulates the chraging- voltage that is supplyed to the battery.
I havent jet taken apart the bettery that much that i can tell what controller is inside of that but there is a "Learn" state that is for learning the battery capabiletys.
Maybe that is worth a look.
Every shop i found that carrys these interestingly has the same pictures and that looks a bit scammy.
This is the best i have found so far is this.

EDIT1:
The in battery pack IC is a Texas Instruments ti bq20Z75.
Maybe the Datasheets on those can tell interesting storys.
In case that one of you has bought one of thouse replacements, and is disapointed, i'd like to take a look at that bettery!
Thanks

Hey,
So after months (years!) of gradual degradation, my battery finally kicked it yesterday - it holds zero charge. More annoyingly, the machine would randomly power off when the battery ran out of juice - even when plugged in.
Luckily I had already read about this behavior previously and know that it can be solved by simply disconnecting the battery, which I did today (note, you need a Torx T5 screwdriver to open up the case). There is basically a problem with the charging circuit, where it will continue to try and draw power from a dead battery (rather than the AC adapter), even when the battery is dead.
So now my venerable 2013 Blade is but a glorified desktop... I don't suppose anyone has managed to source a reliable replacement battery? I refuse to send my machine back to Razer (rip off + hassle of not having a machine for days/weeks).
Thanks,

Ahh yes, the charge circuitry issues.....To help identify this please tell me, with the battery plugged in and AC adapter plugged in, does it stay at near 0% battery or possibly 1-2% and then just randomly shutoff after a few minutes with the adapter plugged in? If so, that is due to motherboard issues and not the battery. I do have many options for you there, either repair, or even replacement motherboards which i could ship to you(currently have 1 left for your model, so let me know). As for the actual battery itself, it's possible it is going bad as well but from what you described it sounds to be just typical charge circuitry issues on the main board.Vasudev likes this.

Hi,
Has anyone tried any of the replacement batteries available on Amazon? Seem to be from a bunch of random no-name companies... (click for links):
Antiee
ZTHY
Litu
Sunnear
There may be others kicking around as well, but these are the first few that I found. Interested to hear if anyone has any experience with these brands!
Cheers,
Su -
Bought the ZTHY a month ago, working good for me so far
-
@koireef thanks for bumping this thread... I bit the bullet and bought the Antiee battery and installed. Feels like I have a new laptop again, and finally able to use it for a few hours without being plugged in all the time!
Thanks,
Su -
Had anyone successfully replaced the battery with good results? My system's battery is dying to the point of requiring being plugged in.
