OK 4K version is out and I wasn't originally interested in it but now I think its the one for me but I got a few Q's for the team.

So if I run gams at 60hz at 1920x1080 will it keep temps lower and roughly how much?
I take it running games at 4k at 60hz will be about as hot as the 144hz?

Its good to see the thermal strip on the ssd now and I like the copper look as copper is expensive.
My Question is - can you spray paint it any colour you like and say make it your own and would it invalidate your warranty if you did?

Its still a 1070 and there is no getting around that it is going to run hot regardless. You can help control the temps via undervolting and perhaps doing your own thermal but it's still going to run fairly hot. https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-R...onger-than-its-GTX-1070-version.315674.0.html

Depend the game, just tried on Vampyr Limiting FPS to 60 with vsync on 60Hz not change a lot Temperature since the game max FPS on ultra won’t go above 65fps. Max 91 on 144Hz vs 89 on 60Hz.
Running 4K yes it’ll hotter than 1080p, but it’s also depends on games, especially games that render things a lot like open world, it push cpu to work harder.
Yes you can with Black color, they won’t notice it anyway since there’s also black vapor chamber ;) But note that the paint material should be tough enough for high temperature otherwise you’ll see it meltdown inside your Blade lol

I'm so happy Razer finally put that bios and ec update out, finally charging when off and Synapse comes right on. Starting to feel like the best laptop ever ;)

I frequently wipe down the whole laptop.csnt stand fingerprints or dust. The trackpad doesn't get too bad, are your fingers naturally pretty oily?

Are you running a 386 or a 385 model of the RB15, and is it default config (Ie no upgrades to the ssd/RAM) Because I cannot upgrade the bios (it goes through the motions, but the bios updates real quick, and it reboots but no change to the bios) and on application of the EC it says my unit is already updated.

Unsure on what model mine would be, but the update seemed to go right through. I do have a 1tb SSD in mine but don't know how that would affect it.

Idk what does it mean, maybe later than 385 ;) Mine Born in June. Just upgrade SSD to 512gb evo 960 nvme haha, won’t pay more than my portable 2.5 5TB HDD. I still have time though getting 1 TB one for €270, but 512gb for €107 is just better value. I updated bios to latest one yesterday on original and when I try ec update after installation it stated already updated to the newest.

I updated both my bios and ec. Noticed sleep mode works correctly/differently now. Before if the lid was closed and I used an external mouse to wake the device the screen would not come back on if I opened it(. I would have to close the screen to put it back to sleep and open it again for the screen to turn back on.

Also noticed it wakes quicker and the fans will turn on while in sleep mode(green flashing light) Wonder if this is working as intended.

Edit: Figured it out. My settings for closing the lid were set to “do nothing”. Weird I never changed it. But the wake with external mouse bug is fixed when waking up from sleep. I know I saw someone else posted that they had the same problem.

How do you guys deal with the first scratch / mark you make on your Razer. I'm feeling depressed and it's hardly even visible.

A damn USB cable hit it and put a dent next to the trackpad.

Mine did the same thing! Power plan changed on me and it wasn't me lol.

Casualty of war, there's only 3 things I'd do. 1 is try to touch up paint it with a very fine point brush or marker, and 2 is cover it with a skin. Decalrus.com has interior skins, Dbrand has the best exteriors.

    3 live with it

I’m at -135mV per xtu, I’m not using default overclocking gaming mode but afterburner 210/700 (gaming mode only OC 100/300). Lower than that will cause crashing I believe, since it’s already crashing on +215 core clock on Firestrike.

so yeah, its a 386, mine too. I have downloaded the BIOS but it does not update me to 1.05, it goes through the motions but nil change to the version number. Can you elaborate anything you might have done differently ( like i even used administrator mode, disabled AV) the only thing i have modified is the WIN10 Pro and running on a 970Evo, and BIOS on defaults. Have you disabled the security options in the BIOS?????

No I didn’t change any setting on bios, Blade bios is quite laughable compared to other manufacturers, good they don’t reduce the performance unlike previous Blade, otherwise I’ll try anything to flash it. Btw don’t do bios update yet, seems have issue according a user on Reddit, something with usb and web camera, I think that 1.05 update is fixing trackpad on Linux. EC 1.02 Update is fine. I will apply thermal pad on SSD, the new one still 70ish. That’s all my upgrade atm SSD and its thermal Pad.

After installing SSD? No, only at first run Firestrike score was lower than 15K, after trying seconds run it back again even better around 15,2K with my old profile 210/700. I wouldn’t doing bios update if i don’t have issues with current bios, especially it states only trackpad Linux fix which I don’t use at all. EC Update is apparently not saved on ssd, somewhere on motherboard since after putting new ssd and it stated so when I tried to install EC 1.02 the latest EC update, and I checked I can charge on power off lid closed condition.
Yes to my under €500 value iphone screen, I like having scratches on it, kind cool... But not on my €2K Blade ;)

Yes, me too! I noticed because I closed my lid, as normal, but the laptop kept running and then the fans started revving up while the lid was closed!

On reading this post I went to my power settings and lid actions and, like you guys, it was set to "do nothing", as was pressing the power button (which I changed to force sleep).

I added an XPG ADATA 480GB NVME SSD and it runs at 30-40c max even while transfering huge files.
It comes with a heatsink/thermal paste applied.

Today was a semi sad day. Ended up returning my Blade 15 4K. After the nightmare of Razer CS and 2 week waiting period that was literally the biggest F up I’ve experienced it finally went back in the Amazon box. I charged it back up twice just for a definitive battery test and used my iPhone timer. 3 hours 37min for everyday use/browsing/watching YouTube here or there. 3:17 for a Netflix loop. Anyone know why the battery life is terrible with an 80 watt. The Mac has a battery that’s about 76watts and gets 10 hours. Does OS really make that much of a difference?

In Battery department yes OSX better than windows, on boot camp I had also similar worst battery life than OSX roughly around half battery life eat windows on old MacBook Pro. On 4K Blade it would around that, maybe with the time it’ll be better. First time i had also bad battery life with Blade 15 FHD 1070, was not 4 hours but now it can reach 5 hours, still worst compared to other that has 6 or even 9 hours I saw on YouTube Battery Test though.

Yes there is a big difference in optimizations but that being said windows does a lot in the background so there are tweaks you can do that will net you much better battery life. You should be able to get 5 hours of normal use

Didn’t do that on purpose just accidentally dropped it on asphalt, cracked but still usable even the force touch function is fine, saw some friends also using the scratch display phone. It’s 2 years old phone so I’m okay but if it’s brands new iPhone X, I’ll cry ;)
I’ll give that a try, my new evo 960 is somehow lowering graphics performance, I think that’s why a lot users hardly break15K on Firestrike, placing back the original SSD, it’s normally 15~K...weird. Hope that one will not effect gpu performance.

Unless something has changed recently, that's because in bootcamp, the dGPU is always active. And Apple does not put all that much effort into drivers etc.

Well I managed to get the bios updated, just required a full of format. Good news is I am able to hit a 7+ hour battery life that's wifi use running in battery saver mode (that has appeared in my WinX battery profile and 25% brightness). I couple this with synapse's balanced profile and run the refresh rate to 60Hz. At this moment there are no XTU profiles to underclock etc.

Is the battery life improvement because of bios update or it has nothing to do with that?

Hi, could someone please tell me where to find the newest BIOS for the Blade 15 "1070" model? Can`t find it on the official support website. Was it removed because of issues? Currently running on BIOS V1.03

Go into the RB15's support page (with all the drivers) there you will find a PDF(to download) open that PDF and in there is a hyperlink to get you the BIOS

Well since the BIOS, i was able to maintain a Battery Saver profile that wasn't there by default ( winx default profiles, not in synapse or anything) and then the Battery estimates started to show when i began to highlight the battery in the taskbar. So with my profile as above that is the battery life i can manage. Now 7+ was an estimate, as i never sat with a watch to let it run out, i was just installing software and bringing the laptop upto my requirements, so i wasn't benching it or running anything extensive, and i cruised through 4 hours with atleast another 4 Hours+ showing on the battery estimates. Also to note the Fans don't stay as revved up as on the 1.03.

It’s great! I’ve still on 1.03, they took off bios 1.05 update from support page. I downloaded it before and have it though, just see several days if there’s no issues I’ll update it but from your experience i can’t wait it actually ;) I can live with 5 hours battery life, well at least atm.

Got my RB 15 (1070) on Friday, bit annoyed at the thermals even after applying LM, my temps are hitting 90°C on CPU, 80° on GPU. Wondering if the heat sink isnt making enough contact. Anyone else have similar issues after applying LM?

It is warm right now where I live, if I had to guess my ambient temp in my room would be 30°. Maybe that’s the biggest factor here.

It’s the one with oled Panel right? I saw it on CES last year since here no local electronics store has Alienware on display sample, it’s nice panel and higher resolution is also plus point, I think that’s all the benefits over Blade 13, oh yes if you have amp box it’s also nice for getting similar eGPU performance with desktop over TB3 eGPU.
Compared to 1060 7700HQ Alienware 13 with 1070 8750H Blade 15 you’ll get roughly 30% performance boost both cpu and gpu, gpu may higher if you have good luck with silicon lottery. Even with 1060 model, due new 6 cores cpu it’ll performs still better since nowadays games need also cpu besides the gpu.
Just saw that Linus review, he’s using gaming mode which is 100/300 OC, I’m using 210/700 and FPS is similar with that zephyrus m. Really good maxq laptop, thermal also fine no throttling on cpu (some cores may hitting low 90ish in some demanding games, gpu max 80) and I’m happy upgrading from old Blade 14 with Gtx 1060.

Yes ambient temperature may effect cpu temperature. I didn’t repasting mine though, but several weeks ago when here’s also around that hot my cpu temperature was higher reaching high 90ish, but now on 24 ambient temperature max on Witcher 3, Vampyr that I play now are 91, only a core (randomly). And it’s gaming mode, on balanced mode it may lower.
On first time stress tests it never shows 80ish, Firestrike with max OC profile highest are mid 80ish. GPU max 80, mostly on 70ish.

Hey everyone! Maybe this question already appeared here before, but! Do you think it's alright for screen to play with closed lid when the laptop is getting so hot? I know it has some protection on the bottom of the screen, but there is still hot air coming from arond F5 to F9. What do you think?

    Can’t you use the external
Monitor and have lid open if your concerned with the heat?

I never game on an external monitor with the laptop closed - I'd always leave it open.

Wondered when he was going to review it. He did a Razer moan video of everything wrong and what needed to be fixed. This did everything he asked and you can see how happy he is with the laptop.

I myself have just ordered the 4K one.

Very interesting! BIOS update had disappeared from Razer web site. I wonder why?

Edit: seams problem with linux sleep, that laptop re awakes by itself, also high power consumption, something about power state of the CPU
