Hi all just received the new Razer Blade 256gb. Wonderful machine but I am experiencing a few issues. Firstly the Nvidia Control panel yields only 3 options rather than showing me the usual display options I see on my desktop comp that has a Nvidia GPU. The only 3 options I see are "adjust image settings with preview", "Manage 3d settings", and "set PhysX configuration". I am wondering if this is a driver issue or if I am just missing an option to allow the NVidia control panel to unlock.
Also I have been playing Diablo 3 at 1080p resolution and getting 30-45 frames at max settings - I think the intel HD built in graphics are interfering with the dedicated GPU. How can I control this so the intel graphics step aside and allow the 870m to do its job?
Thanks!

Hey, I can play Diablo 3: RoS at native resolution with 60fps at most times on highest settings. It took me a second to figure it out but for whatever reason, when you turn on vertical sync in Diablo's display options it pretty much doubles the framerate. If that doesn't work, it may be the integrated graphics instead of the gtx 870m but I didn't have that problem... turning vertical sync on fixed my fps. Hope that helps.

Holy .......
I did not think turning on V-sync would help, but it brought my FPS up from 25-40 to 60 (mostly) solid. That is strange, maybe it's a driver issue? -
Yeah.. must be. Very strange that turning Vsync on would INCREASE fps...
oh and enjoy hearing the fans more now that your gpu will be working harder. Fans kick on full blast at native resolution with vsync on... and diablo isn't that demanding of a game... another reason I think there may be a driver issue. -
Diablo 3 is hell on mobile GPUs, on my Lenovo Y510P it would drive the main GPU to 80+ and the ultrabay GPU to 97C at 1080P.
-
Dang.... well maybe it's just going to be that way then. It will drive my GPU temp to 85-86 and stay steady there with fans going at full speed. Never seen higher than 87 on it according to MSI Afterburner.
-
Nope. That's how it is with an Optimus machine. It's a "slave" GPU to Intel's IGP. All the other screen options like scaling, etc need to be done in the Intel control panel.

Thanks for all the replies, they solved all the issues. Glad to hear nothing is wrong with my NVidia control panel, thanks Wing. I also turned on vsync this morning and played D3 ROS again - capped at 60 fps no matter how intense the situation gets.
Thanks again everyone. -
Do you guys use cooling pads?
-
I use a passive pad at home, which also is a stand that lifts it up about 6" too. But I never carry one on the road with me, that would defeat the purpose of why I bought a thin and light laptop in the first place.
-
Thanks! I got mine last night and I guess I'm a bit nervous because it's my first computer for gaming and I don't want to break it lol
I'll probably have more stupid questions -
If you can irreparably break it without opening it up or physical trauma it's a POS. I wouldn't worry, you're not learning if you're not breaking.
CjQuick likes this. -
Cooling pads any more don't do a whole lot. The cooling system is pretty well contained to the heatpipe and heatsink at the fan. If you can direct extra airflow right at the CPU, GPU, and/or heatsink then you might help a bit. But just blowing air at the bottom of the case helps very marginally.

Thanks again for the feedback, I guess cooling pads are more peace of mind than anything lol
